When I was in college marching band someone was responsible for researching the opposing school’s admissions stats to see if we could chant “SAT scores!” if (usually when) the football team was losing really badly.

my wife is a Cal fan and apparently this week they’re putting a “59” on their football helmets to honor the 59 Nobel laureates tied to Cal in order to flex on Duke

this is maybe my favorite dunk anyone has ever done on Duke

We are buying a new house and will now be shopping for used furniture and holding off on any renovations until this lunatic is out of office.

The administration’s fight with Home Depot has escalated from the initial raids by the crack ICE agents in Sealant Team 6 to a full blown economic war.

He’s going to nuke one before November
We will be imposing a 50% Tariff on all Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Vanities, and associated products, starting October 1st, 2025.
Additionally, we will be charging a 30% Tariff on Upholstered Furniture. The reason for this is the large scale "FLOODING" of these products into the United States by other outside Countries. It is a very unfair practice, but we must protect, for National Security and other reasons, our Manufacturing process. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

This is going to decimate STEM higher education and the tech industry should (but probably won’t) throw a fit.

Gore refuses to militarize 9/11 and loses reelection to George W. Bush in 2004. Bush still oversees Katrina and financial meltdown and loses after one term to Hillary Clinton. Beyond that I have no idea where we go from there....

Got to see a preview of Ken Burns’s new 6 part documentary “The American Revolution” at NJPAC today. It’s going to be great! Paul Giamatti even reprises his role as (the voice of) John Adams! #fundpublicmedia

Farmers in deep-red Pennsylvania are struggling to find workers. They're pushing lawmakers to move faster on a farm labor solution, even as Trump cracks down on immigration.

“We need people to do the jobs Americans are too spoiled to do," said one farmer and three-time Trump voter.

Hopes for the fast capture of the person who fatally shot the right-wing activist Charlie Kirk evaporated on Wednesday when Kash Patel, the FBI director, announced that the authorities had released a man he had described as a central subject of a multiagency manhunt.

Kash Patel, the F.B.I. director, said that the agency’s investigation was continuing, reversing his earlier announcement that someone had been apprehended.

My Catholic Church posted a meme honoring Charlie Kirk on Facebook this morning. It's interesting, considering Kirk was not Catholic (though he did recently flirt with Catholicism), and there was no post made when Pope Francis passed or we lost a diocesan priest to suicide recently.

Brief 🧵, as someone who has studied mass shootings for 13 years:

-gender does not cause them
-SSRIs, no
-mental illness, no
-internet/gaming, no

Above can be compounding factors—but motive is complex, often very. The most fundamental combo:

suicidality + rage + isolation + easy access to guns
