At-a-glance processing of syntactic dependencies in minimal DANISH two-word sentences by @simonekrogh.bsky.social!
Sentence-superiority and dependency effects emerge in fronto-temporal cortex from ~230ms.

Excited to share my first PhD paper with @liinapy.bsky.social! From rapid flashes of Danish two-word stimuli, left fronto-temporal areas detect not only sentence–list contrasts but also grammatical details like syntactic frame. Huge thanks to the Danes who volunteered their 🧠 to make this possible!
Manipulating syntax without taxing working memory: MEG correlates of syntactic dependencies in a verb-second language
The neural basis of syntax is notoriously difficult to study without working memory and lexico-semantic confounds. To tackle these challenges, we presented syntactic dependencies in minimal Danish ...

New paper out in Psychonomic Bulletin & Review (open access)!

Using behavioral masked priming and single word reading with concurrent MEG recording, we investigate how our brain spots the tiny pieces of words (a.k.a. morphemes)—even when they’re playing hide-and-seek. 👀

My 2nd MEG paper just got accepted for publication at Psychonomic Bulletin & Review! 🕺🏻

Using Tagalog as a test-case, we show that the brain can break down complex words into morphemes, despite obscured/opaque morphological boundaries.

Can’t wait to share this paper.

The anterior temporal lobe (ATL) seems crucial for both semantic memory and semantic composition. How to make sense of this neuroanatomical alignment? 🧠

But we can do something! If you also work on language processing or first language acquisition focussing on cross-linguistic variation, then submit an abstract to *Crosslinguistic Perspectives on Processing and Learning 2025* #X_PPL2025!

Out now in Nature Comms. To learn a new word, we need to remember it. We track factors driving memory of novel words, showing which words we remember or forget is predictable across people, and isolate a distinct region of fusiform cortex sensitive to this memorability.

To learn new written words, we need to be able to remember their associated letters. Here, the authors show the factors that predict how memorable or forgettable new words are and show a region of hum...
