We’ve discussed AI in journalism a lot this semester - but is AI journalism ethical? Is there any room for coexistence between human journalists and AI journalists? #UWJ201 #318

In lecture, we discussed deplatforming; the removal of an account off of a social media website due to some speech. This is not illegal unless the social media sight is controlled by the government, but what are some cons to deplatforming? Does it build resentment? #UWJ201 #318

In class we discussed the routes of persuasion, specifically central and peripheral. Is there any correlation between their levels of effectiveness when looking at different age groups or genders? What about political affiliation? #UWJ201 #318

In class we discussed how people who are wrong about an issue, and are confident in their opinion (despite being wrong) are the least likely group of people to benefit from a fact check. What ways are there to change these people’s minds? Can fact checks work with perseverance? #UWJ201 #318

In the reading “the media’s biggest bias is its centrism” by Zack Beauchhamp, the media is described as having a “centrist bias”, which translates to a favoritism of moderate viewpoints. What incentives do journalists have that might influence or create this bias? #UWJ201 #318

This week we talked about how journalism and mass communication can result in a better life. Specifically, we mentioned dating apps. I’m curious if this will have any long term consequences, such as declining face-to-face relationships or any other social changes? #UWJ201 #318

This week we discussed how mass communication discusses what we want in a romantic relationship and how we can find one. Has this had a tangible impact on modern relationship dynamics? How does this impact nuclear family models or patriarchal structures? #UWJ201 #318

This week we talked about how many sources tend want anonymity where journalists tend to want names. Would it be possible to introduce any kind of third variable to incentivize sources to forgo anonymity or is this not an important debate? #UWJ201 #318.

This week we read about how journalists rush to publish the first story on a topic. This may result in the potential disregard of fact-checking and high-quality reporting. Do you see this trend dying out or accelerating with future forms of media? #UWJ201 #318

In this week’s readings we read about framing, and a more specific example; the “green new deal”. I was surprised to learn that more moderate wording is more effective even across political parties. Why is this equal when other methods seem to affect different parties differently? #UWJ201 #318

Each point in left-leaning media use is correlated with increased beliefs in false statements from democratic politicians. The same can be said for right media use, except with Trump. How has Trump been able to become synonymous with the GOP? What does this mean for the GOP’s future? #UWJ201 #318

Americans find little satisfaction in shopping. As a society we are buying more than ever and working longer, yet we are less happy with our lives. Is this a government failure or is this a cultural shift? At what point does American capitalism become unlivable for the average consumer? #UWJ201 #318

78% of companies have some in-house agency functions, up from 42% in 2008. Companies are shifting to internal services for tasks like creative development and marketing. What does this mean for freelance workers? Is there still a place for them or is their space in business dying? #UWJ201 #318
