Yesterday the Supreme Court issued a convoluted, 36-page emergency order about NIH grant terminations. Two main takeaways:
-$2 billion (not the government # of $780 million) in NIH grants will likely be re-terminated
-future legal challenges will be much harder

The Trump admin wants to cut the NSF's budget by 57%.

In terms of directorates, EDU and ENG would see the biggest cuts at 75%, while MPS is looking at a ~67% cut. The proposal also defunds nearly all postdoc programs and slashes the NSF GRFP budget by 55%.

Why is the cut to NSF is so steep? The $5 billion, 57% cut goes well beyond other science agencies (40% for NIH, 14% for DOE science). It's more than the numbers from the Cruz report, which (erroneously) estimated only 2 billion over 4 years went to "DEI" science.
