It really came to a head when Warner Bros. Got bought by Discovery in 2022. The new management and board members attempted to cut costs and improve revenue by making it more like Fox.

Actually the 2 reasons AR glasses are next is 1) Using AI to build a better profile to sell to advertisers. 2) AI has hit a ceiling with training data from the internet. AR will not only get speech but also hand interaction and movement. That will be used for robotics.
