Love these rules - especially rule #2. It's all too easy when reviewing to fall into the trap of feeling like we need to criticize *something* even when the paper is good.

Hanbo and Huadong's superb work on Think Aloud for risky decision making. Think Aloud data from JUST ONE TRIAL allows us to predict choices on other trials about 5% above chance.
psychboyh.bsky.social
Can Think-Aloud be really useful in understanding human minds? Building on our previous work, we formally propose reopening this old debate, with one of the largest Think-Aloud datasets, "RiskyThought44K," and LLM analysis, showing Think-Aloud can complement to comp cogsci.

This is my favorite thing about analytic solutions for models - perfect correspondence between theory and simulation!

I also love that you have the guy you won the bidding war against piping up in the comments. Thanks for sharing - this totally made my day!

Not quite. Some students will have only taken one coding class before mine so a bit rough to have them switch languages!
doctor-bob.bsky.social
What a great story! I adapted the code for the gif from a different blog post maybe 10 years ago - that I can't find for the life of me now. That uses bitshift to reveal the images, but leads the 1 bit images appearing superimposed. I also stopped the loop too early and missed you off - sorry!

From your blogs it looks like there's even more history to it than I realized!

It's driven by the students - their intro classes are all in Python.

One of the saddest things about switching my classes from Matlab to Python is that I no longer get to teach about the Matlab ghost. Rest in peace little buddy ... along with your dogs, your random numbers and all of your creepy hidden friends

Proud to play a small role in this null result - from the excellent and thorough @carolinephelps.bsky.social. No effect of chronic or acute pain on working memory in the Sternberg task.
carolinephelps.bsky.social
Is the pain of null data taking up slots in your working memory? Or shifting you over optimum arousal on the Yerkes Dodson curve?

Not for me! I've externalized it to this lovely preprint!

Plus, read on for why it might not be the pain that causes deficits in your working memory... 🧵

I am crying while grading my students' final essays for a course that taught them how to critically evaluate psychological science.

They understood the assignment. 🧵

On today of all days, with Princeton now in the Trump administration's crosshairs, I taught my undergraduates about standpoint epistemology, strong objectivity, and communities of knowledge.

On how our unique perspectives as individuals don't threaten the scientific project. They strengthen it.

I love this thread so much! What a fantastic final assignment to have folks critically reflect on being a participant in an experiment. And what a reminder to us all - especially those of us on the computational side - that people aren't machines! Thank you!
