One of my favorite things about humanity is that we make up stories and figure out new and creative ways to tell them to each other, and people pay attention and pull them apart and discuss them, and when we’re lucky—which is still pretty often—we can find human connection inside all those stories

For me: sixteen, home alone in the dark after everyone else had gone to bed. I’d seen Aliens so I knew Ripley and Jonesy got out okay but I did not know about Ash at all. Flipped on every light in the house after I finished the movie

If your story about people getting sucked into a computer doesn’t include a guy who can say his lines with a twinkle in his eye but can also lend dumb lines like “I fight for the Users!” with a modicum of gravitas then what are we even doing here folks

It was my last theatrical experience of 2020–caught it at UChicago’s Doc Films right before they shut down for the pandemic, and it carried me through some of those early awful days. Good movie!
