THE CHRONOLOGY OF WATER: Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut is an expansive, evocative work of cinematic poetry with a career-best performance by Imogen Poots. It's a formally ambitious vision that shows Stewart has got the stuff 📽️

President Trump called Portland “War ravaged” to justify his move to send troops to the city. But in the days before his announcement, federal officials tasked with protecting government buildings said protests outside an ICE facility were “low energy.”

Went back on KUOW’s Seattle Now to talk movies, the state of SIFF, the recent reporting I did for The Seattle Times with Margo Vansynghel, and how the arts nonprofit is exploring what the Downtown (formerly Cinerama) can be. Best give that a listen below👇

The state of online media is such a bummer, I sometimes think: who cares? Then, I read something so smart and so funny and so uniquely the product of this compromised but generative space, that I remember: I care!
This, by @mckinneykelsey.bsky.social, is a tour de force. defector.com/taylor-swift...

NEW: After paying for hotel rooms to shelter homeless people, Seattle deliberately left them vacant.

By the end of 2024, taxpayers were spending $4,200 a month per empty room at a time when thousands of residents were without a roof over their heads.
Seattle Spent Millions on Hotel Rooms to Shelter Unhoused People. Then It Stopped Filling Them.
Early last year, the city signed a $2.7 million lease extension to continue using a hotel’s rooms as shelter space. Yet despite committing to pay the rent, the city stopped sending people there.

the hardest part of living in Portland is having your house burn down every single night and then having to rebuild it during the day. the amount of money i spend just in drywall is insane.

Trump: Portland is burning to the ground—insurrectionists all over the place. The politicians are afraid for their lives. That’s the only reason they say there’s nothing happening.
