I want to help you understand habits so you can create a better life

Psychology Today summarizes some of my methods. Not quite how I'd say it, but it's okay

Quoting someone else, the article says give yourself a reward like a coffee.

My view: That's an incentive. Not a reward

Been looking out for ability windows ever since the concept was brought to my attention last month.

Grocery stores design excellent ability windows for exploring their options while standing in checkout lines.

And would you know it? We bought some handmade soaps while in line!

Dr. Shankar's work in identity and decision science is utterly fascinating to me.

Identity plays such a big role in what we do (and don't do). Her ability to turn complexity and nuance into practical behavioral insights is so helpful.

Worth a listen when you have time.

Who would've thought turning grayscale on after dinner each night would not only help me get to bed sooner, but also reduce my spending habits?

I still browse, but since colors are removed, I usually don't buy right away. If it's something I really want, I have to wait until morning.

Kinda cool.

Gonna get kinda personal for a bit

If it looks like you’ll spend the holiday alone, this post is for you

Let’s suppose you celebrate Christmas. And you have no plans.

I urge you to make a plan. Invite 2 or 3 people. Could be for

Xmas eve
Xmas brunch
Xmas day tea

Low key

Had one of those all-timer convos with a friend the other day. One that took our friendship to new depths.

And we did something unusual (for us) this time: we visualized our thoughts.

Doodled napkins littered our table by the night's end, but we walked away with new knowledge and understanding!

A personal breakthrough/shift that has helped me design better habits:

Associating tools not as things I use, but things I have relationships with:

My reading chair isn't for sitting, it's for helping me focus and so I can learn new things.

I have been experimenting with a behavior swap since October: drinking yerba mate instead of espresso!

I still drink espresso, but only when I'm short on time (like Mondays and Tuesdays when I'm up and out the door early).

Have you tried mate? If so, how do make and maintain that dang "mountain"?

Arrived home to another gift!

A wonderful tool of exercises, how-to's, and reflection space on a skill very important to me: facilitation.

Amplifying group intelligence in a way that energizes + helps people feel successful is a win-win for me every time.

Can't wait to use it to hone my craft.

Each year, when my wife and I head south for the winter, we're greeted with a gifted painted rock from our neighbor.

Robert is the epitome of shine. He gives it freely and authentically.

This was his gift to us today.

A great reminder from Robert to "be a plus, not a minus" in the world.

Final leg of the drive today will be delayed due to insufficient beauty rest for one of the passengers.

NOW is the time to strengthen your closest relationships.

Your life partner, brother, sister, best friend.

Those few people who matter most to you.

These relationships give you health & happiness.

They will also help you get thru tough times ahead.

Pls don’t delay.

Drove from Columbus to Savannah, GA today. About 11ish hours in total.

Used moments throughout the drive to begin wiring a new habit:

After I squeeze the pump to begin fueling my vehicle, I will sit in my car and take 3 deep breaths.

It really helped me decompress from the stress of traffic.
