We're nearly a third of the way through the 90 day pause, and no-one knows what'll happen next. So we get all the pain of high tariffs, but none of the upside because future tariffs at the rate of ??? percent doesn't compute in capex spreadsheets.

The President says that his trade policies mean that kids might get fewer dolls for Christmas this year. The same forces that lead families to buy fewer dolls will also lead businesses to buy less equipment.
Trump on China: "They made a trillion dollars with Biden selling us stuff. Much of it we don't need. Somebody said, 'oh, the shelves are gonna be open.' Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, and maybe the two dolls will cost a couple of bucks more."

One thing that terminally boring Presidents don't do is announce an absurd policy, cause chaos, then back down to something less absurd. They think at least a couple of steps ahead, and just implement the not-absurd policy.

My daughter came home from school the other day and informed the dinner table that she was studying Watergate in her US history class, and we all just sat there not quite sure what to say, or how to understand that history in today's context.

I remember as a kid growing up as a sport fanatic in Sydney, I would always cheer for the Aussies first, and if the Aussies were out of contention, the U.S. was always the next set of "good guys" I would cheer for.
I wonder if young Aussies still do that.

In just three months, with no external shocks, economic forecasters have gone from predicting that the U.S. economy would continue to deliver ongoing growth, to predicting a quite weak (and possibly recessionary) economy.

Oh, it was *Zelensky* that started the war? Like when a bully claims their victim started the fight because their face hurt his fist?
