🖤 we're bringing HIM back, one person at a time.
donatobomb.bsky.social
I don't think I minded TAKEN 2!
donatobomb.bsky.social
It just ... sure. Let's abandon what you're best at. Cool cool cool.
donatobomb.bsky.social
Yeah, 2 doesn't have a lot of appreciators itself. I think it's still got some solid scares and great found footage usage, but it's hardly perfect.
donatobomb.bsky.social
The scares as *so good* in both 1 and 2, but precisely that—the further he expanded and evolved the main story, the messier and less appealing each film became (imo). Then repetition set in. The same camera tricks, the same "hits," and gosh golly that last one. The bottom fell out so quick (imo).
donatobomb.bsky.social
Maybe it’s recency bias, but HELL HOUSE LLC.

The first is one of my favorite modern horror films. Everything after … exists. 2 is the only other one I’ve enjoyed, but it’s still nowhere near the original.
donatobomb.bsky.social
Then why don't you like DEMON WIND.
donatobomb.bsky.social
Truly believe the same! I left my screening and barely talked to any other critics, so I was pretty shocked the next morning. Like, I figured my review for @dailydead.bsky.social would be on the high end, but to find out it was one of like, 5 positives, I was shocked. Was a better OPUS imo.
donatobomb.bsky.social
Every time I think I know Monagle, he throws me a curveball haha. Like, I was ready for my review to be the opposite of his thoughts haha.
donatobomb.bsky.social
In a shocking turn of events, I'm not the only Matt at @certifiedforgot.bsky.social who digs HIM?

In our latest 30-minute Uncertified episode, @monagle.bsky.social and I delve into why the heavily derided football-horror mashup resonated with us (and not many others, lol).

I'm all for robot Pam Grier with a flamethrower, too haha.

It said "Drafthouse" on your post, so I'd probably assume so? 2017 log date?

Also can't believe @monagle.bsky.social saw a ridiculous 80s/90s midnighter before I did (after checking Letterboxd). So proud.

Had the pleasure of hosting @bradfhenderson.bsky.social this weekend, and he showed me one of his favorites, CLASS OF 1999. Immediately fell in love with this dystopian "students are gang members and teachers are murderous military automotons" flick. Blu-ray is already ordered for the collection.

QUEENS OF THE DEAD: Would be a perfect double-bill with the Tubi’s fabulous original SLAY; very much channels the same energy and queer celebration. Tina Romero’s glam-gore take on zombies continues her father’s legacy but with Tina’s vision and voice. Glittery, bloody, sassy, and fun! #BeyondFest

Came for QUEENS OF THE DEAD at Beyond Fest, staying for the post-screening Q&A hosted by @horrorgirlprobs.bsky.social!

I got lucky, I literally just found the LA date like 2 weeks ago and snagged tickets haha.

“Fucked with an Anchor” will forever be a perfect closing song. What other band says goodbye by (lovingly) insulting their audience and asking for the same treatment back?

Second time seeing Alestorm and I think the Belasco is turning into my favorite concert venue in LA. Was only $20 to upgrade to the reserved area, and had a perfect view all night.

Alestorm brought so much energy, such a fun-filled metal show. Shreds, smiles, rubber duckies, and rum. 🏴‍☠️ 🤘
A picture of the stage as the inflatable ducky finished blowing up, with the crew member looking up. A shot of Alestorm drenched in red lights, with Barbara Blackthorne from Glyph joining them on stage. A shot of Alestorm with their “Pirate Party” lights, going full color bursts. A cheers to Alestorm!
