bluesky has video now so i'm posting the first minute from my favorite video i've made so far: the rigging video!

watch the full vid here:

someday i'll figure out how full-time youtube works so i can make gigantic videos like this one again

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

that's actually something i've wanted to do FOREVER and even had a visual style in mind for it that was closer to how I actually draw, but it kept getting shelved and now i wanna get my actual channel running again first lol
doodley.org
this looks sick, will watch
doodley.org
yeah everything was designed to be consistent and simple from the start so i had the level of quality i wanted without videos taking forever
i wanna do that again but with a higher bar of quality, so lots of pre-production to do upfront, but videos are still easy to make afterwards

sorry for a million tweets you're about to scroll past, it's 2am and i live in my mind fortress thinking about stuff

what i really should be doing is getting back into painting!!!!! i was cooking developing my digital painting skills in 2020 and then i got really into 3D!!!!!!! 3D is cringe!!!!!!!

so it's difficult to come back to when it's not quite what is hitting my creative bones right now. though i have confidence i'll figure it out Eventually and tune it closer to where i want it to be while retaining the 3D educational spirit. i have ideas, but they'll take lots of time
doodley.org
as an example of how far doodley is from what fuels me creatively, if had a billion dollars and i funded a show or game or something, and it could look like anything, it would look nothing like doodley, lmao. much of doodley's art was made to be easy to work with and simple, but i wanna go Bigger

i don't tend to work on things without a very strong motivation (unless it's a job i'm hired for, then i give it fuckin 200% babey) and i'm kind of waiting for that to hit again
doodley.org
doodley gives me a feeling akin to a "higher purpose" and it's very special to me, but it's also fairly rigid creatively. i think it works best in its 3D education niche and i wanna keep it there, but that's also pretty narrow so i'm not always motivated to work on it
doodley.org
i've also been motivated lately to work on other projects aside from doodley, like a pitch. i've never fully formed an actual pitch, but it seems like really good, fun practice.
my creative motivation has been fairly low outside of work, and it'd be nice to work on something new for a change

since my job at glitch is super invisible, i actually do feel a lot of motivation to work on doodley again cause my recent portfolio's gonna be super thin if i don't, lol. it's just nice to relax after 2024 burned me out so hard

we're cookin up a lot of stuff on my team and i'm super super proud of everyone involved, very excited to show what's coming. working as a lead has been very rewarding and everyone working at glitch is super nice, respectful, professional and talented

my little team also did the gaslight season announcement trailer! www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqOS...
i did a billion different things for it (posed a TON of shots, many of which were painted over by part time seagull and our art dir.) but the biggest thing i did is i animated this little moment!

orange sport is my legacy

also i'm VERY late with this but i never showed it so whatever!
lots of my work at glitch tends to be invisible cause it's a hundred tiny little fixes, but the most visible thing i did last episode were the graphics for caine's wacky sports (mannequins were posed by noah yang)
Screenshot of The Amazing Digital Circus episode 6: A sports graphic of "The Caine Leagues", with Caine giving a thumbs up and below it "Brought to you by WACKY WATCH(tm)" Screenshot of The Amazing Digital Circus episode 6: A sports graphic of two mannequins running vertically upwards Screenshot of The Amazing Digital Circus episode 6: A sports graphic of three mannequins posing in a vertical cavern Screenshot of The Amazing Digital Circus episode 6: A sports graphic of two mannequins playing something resembling basketball, but they're cut in half

one last thing, absolutely floored that i'm in the same video as AC-bu. i love love love those guys. eons ago i showed my dad galo sengan LMAO

nothing special about the doodley part, basically the same setup i do for videos where i just animate the whole thing in one file
this did make me realize i reeeaaaalllllly wanna upgrade doodley's rig now though, i was able to get a LOT more expressive animation out of question hound in comparison

model progression of question hound and my very basic reference
surprisingly difficult to capture kc green's work. despite how loose his art feels, there's a lot of precision in his shapes and form
i wasn't happy with how it looked until i could animate it and push poses into the camera

for the last scene, i just rendered a plate of the seance, put that in an image sequence, and then brought that back into maya. i tend to do a lot of stuff like this completely in camera in maya because i'm lazy and don't wanna sync more than one render lmao
3D software image of K.C. Green's Question Hound lying on the floor with an image of a seance behind him 3D software image of KC Green's Question Hound on top of the previous image's seance image as it falls down

question hound's rig is a fairly standard mGear rig, but i did finally get the chance to try a cartoony eye rig. applying the scale at the top level but the rotation one level below lets the pupils rotate very cleanly

oh yeah! thread of some behind the scenes stuff for my part in the "everything is fine" music video youtu.be/JxgqPk1RCCU
@jellybox.bsky.social directed me and @sproutlines.bsky.social helped me with backgrounds!
very big fan of kc green's work so it was a nice honor to render da question hound in 3D

returning to making videos is a very big and intimidating prospect not helped by the fact that i also want them to be ten times better visually lmao
