…and Vincent Price in TWICE TOLD TALES+THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM (Paramount). Finally, shout out to Marni Nixon, singing w/Seattle Symphony, who I watched on KOMO's Boomerang throughout my childhood, and only recently learned of how important her voice was to this era's iconic cinematic musicals. 5/5

Wilder's IRMA LA DOUCE (Music Box) in the midst of a looooong run; more Jack Lemmon over at the 5th Ave, UNDER THE YUM YUM TREE. However, my two favorite programmes today: Alec Guinness in THE LADY KILLERS + KIND HEARTS & CORONETS (Varsity)… 4/

Speaking of westerns, 2 John Wayne flicks that I can stand: MCLINTOCK!, thanks to Maureen O'Hara, and HOW THE WEST WAS WON, thanks to an ensemble cast. Unfortunately, you will have to wait a few days for the Roosevelt's revival double-bill of GUN FIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL + SASKATCHEWAN. 3/

The Colonial, once again, making odd decisions: could see a double-bill SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS + BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S working from a romance angle, but then you go add B-western RIDER ON [A] DEAD HORSE to the mix ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. 2/

And, of course, STAND BY ME—R.I.P. Rob Reiner😢 5/5

Yes, Disney's SONG OF THE SOUTH is in re-release—I think for the final time—but equally cringe, SOUL MAN (Lewis & Clark). 4/

Have to say my favorite film screening today, STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME—I'll catch an early screening in 70mm at Cinerama. Raise your🤚 if you remember the geriatric Burt Lancaster/Kirk Douglas vehicle TOUGH GUYS (Parkplace). 3/

Zeffirelli's OTELLO (Ridgemont), CROCODILE DUNDEE, and THE ASSAULT (Crest), which will go on to win the Oscar. More future Oscar winners include CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD, THE COLOR OF MONEY, and A ROOM WITH A VIEW. SID & NANCY and BLUE VELVET both at the Varsity, sweet way to spend an evening. 2/

However, the biggest attraction by far is 24 hours away, Cab Calloway & his NY Orchestra first Seattle appearance at the Paramount! 3/3

Myrna Loy gets her name above-the-title for WHIPSAW (5th Ave), leaving Spencer Tracy with the "with". Tracy is the star of DANTE'S INFERNO (Capitol), a weirdly wonderful melodrama influenced by the epic poem. Karloff & Lugosi together, again, in THE RAVEN (Mission). 2/

If not peak western, we're getting there: GUN FURY (Paramount), THUNDER OVER THE PLAINS (Liberty), BLOWING WILD (Garden), DEVIL'S CANYON (Hi-Line, in 3D!), THUNDER BAY (45th ST), KANSAS PACIFIC (Ridgemont), and CONQUEST OF COCHISE (Vale)—all but one in color! Take that television! 4/4

Three notable Sci-Fi flicks: ROCKETSHIP X-M (Bay), INVADERS FROM MARS (Roxy), and IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE (Woodland). 3/

Dueling comic revivals: W.C. Fields in BANK DICK + NEVER GIVE A SUCKER AN EVEN BREAK (Arabian) vs. Will Rogers in DAVID HARUM + STEAMBOAT 'ROUND THE BEND (Crest). Burt Lancaster in his Pacific phase—FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (Lake City) and SOUTH SEA WOMAN (Woodland). 2/

Of Disney's classic era feature-length animations, SLEEPING BEAUTY is my favorite. On THE BLACK STALLION--I honestly can't remember watching it all the way through, not even as a child; maybe I should do that finally…. 5/5

…meanwhile, across town H.G. Wells hunts down Jack the Ripper on the streets of modern day San Francisco in TIME AFTER TIME (Guild 45th)—so so good. Even MORE H.G. Wells! THE MAN WHO COULD WORK MIRACLES + THINGS TO COME (Harvard Exit). 4/

APOCALYPSE NOW in 70mm (Town). Never seen THE ROSE (UA 150) but we was forced to sing the theme song in elementary school music class. THE WIZARD OF OZ + THE TIME MACHINE (Pike Place Cinema), great double bill… 3/

…Herzog's NOSFERATU (Moore-Egyptian) and THE LEGACY (Crossroads) lingering on from Halloween. Also at Crossroads, KILLER FISH + THE FISH THAT SAVED PITTSBURGH, they have one word in common, put'em together! The former film is more appropriately paired with THE DEEP at the Admiral. 2/

Finally, if you're looking for a Christmas movie, there's Glenn Ford in MR SOFT TOUCH (Magnolia/Admiral). 5/5

Saw MARY RYAN, DETECTIVE (Liberty) at this past year's Noir City, a very enjoyable B-movie, wish we had gotten more in the series; however, struggling to remember if I've the John Payne noir THE CROOKED WAY (Woodland). 4/

Hepburn & Tracy in ADAM'S RIB (5th Ave), great but not my favorite comedy here, that would be Hawks' HIS GIRL FRIDAY (Roosevelt), in re-release along side CASABLANCA (Uptown). 3/
