I used to try and describe it as "existential dread party music" which is fun but doesn't really tell you anything about the music

In 1889, its name was changed to John B. Stetson University to honor John B. Stetson, a hat manufacturer who made generous donations to the university

John Batterson Stetson (May 5, 1830 February 18, 1906) was an American hat maker who invented the cowboy hat in the 1860s. He founded the John B. Stetson Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1865, and it became one of the largest hat manufacturers in the world. The company's hats are now commonly referred to simply as Stetsons.

There was also a concerted effort after 9/11 to conflate "the troops" with the overall military project of the global war on terror. So any criticism of a massively expensive and ineffective multinational bloodbath was framed as "hating the troops."

Oh, absolutely. There's a secondary layer of American liberals having internalized since 1972 that they can't be perceived as "weak" on militarism and interventionist foreign policy. So they'll never argue against an invasion or providing arms to a proxy war.

American liberals treat smugly catching conservatives in hypocrisy as the highest and final victory. They don't care about military service per se but want those 10 points for Gryffindor for pointing out that a pro-war Republican avoided serving.
