I'm a weather-focused software engineer and career Pythonista. Opinions are my own, yada yada.

Requires a community that understands opportunity cost. And that starts at sponsors. Instead ours is trying to figure out how to access GPUs and ML from FORTRAN.

Now, was that because:
1: You thought it was the best tool (of many) for the job
2: The only language your degree program had the thought to teach you
3: You had to interface with/use other F77 code dating back to punch cards (that your faculty advisor used for their degree)

HAHAHAHAHAH

You can migrate that once an entire generation “moves on”. I still see griping about NCL, GEMPAK, and GARP being unsupported. The field still thinks teaching F77 is good, and I still hear “BUFR is a WMO standard”. GRIB3 just came out for crying out loud.

TIL 4 Super Bowl rings, 3 SB MVPs, 2 MVPs, and being elected to the HoF makes one “good, but not great”.

I also have questions that a product went out on social media without someone making the most basic inspection of what was being sent.

Agree. At the same time, there’s a lesson to be learned about how delicate trust is—vis-a-vis “You don’t need masks” (to keep them for health workers) to “everybody should mask”.

And how not to drop a perfectly fine punt snap. And no WRs missing audibles for a pick 6.

Pretty sure Miami did that plenty earlier 😉

When I turned 35, we were still a year from the first term of the orange man. That seems like an eternity ago.
