Sad to see that espousing personal beliefs are responded to with anger rather than open discussion that allows for disagreement. Present your facts and logic without the rancor. I had hopes that BlueSky would allow vigorous discussion. It isn’t the platform. It is users not being open minded.

Just finished re-reading the first 3 books of the “The Grand Illusion”. Preparing for the delivery of “Legalist”. Not normally a gaslamp person, but I like Modesitt’s world building and exploration of systems and rules. #booksky

America was founded on the concept that thinking different was acceptable. Not everyone has to do everything the same way. If you want that, then you can move to China, Hungary, North Korea or Russia

I think that the tension in the US would lower if everyone in a city spent a week in a rural area and if everyone in a rural area spent time in a city. Walk around, experience and observe. The goal isn’t to get people to like what the other area does, but to accept that being different is OK..

Interesting idea. Keep convicts engaged and moving towards a path to success after incarceration ends.
Forty-five Maine prisoners are currently working remote jobs for outside companies. A few are working full-time, earning more than corrections officers. One is making well into the six figures. Here's why Maine's approach to education and work in prison is making waves in the world of corrections:
In Maine, prisoners are thriving in remote jobs and other states are taking notice

A “city” of 2,000 in a county of 20,000 is having a music festival. Nice to see rural America having big activities. I drove 2 hours to get here. Time to do something different on Labor Day Weekend. www.manchestermusicfest.com

Just signed up for a SciFi/Fantasy SIG. First book is Dune, which I haven’t read in a very long time. I am wondering what books the group will choose next.

Wishing everyone a happy New Year! Trying to stay positive and hope for the best. Resolutions: Only drink lattes at coffee shops. Only have mochas at Starbucks or if making one at home. Continue learning clarinet. Read more books! Cut down on streaming (rotate through services). Be Happy!

I couldn’t hold this in. College football used to be fun. Then NIL happened, and then Pop Tarts started showing up everywhere and photo bombing officials. To cap it off, Cam Ward pulled himself from the bowl game. What happened to playing for your team and school?😟

I am going to take a break from BlueSky. I now understand why “Brain Rot” was the word of the year. If BlueSky grows to compete with other social platforms, then there will be many more posts and it will take more time to keep up. Switching back to online newspapers and reading more books.

In order for BlueSky to grow to the size and have the impact of Twitter and Threads, it will have to expand its audience and include more diverse members. I hope that BlueSky figures out how to foster civil discussions between different ideologies, but not sure “we” are ready to agree to disagree

BlueSky has been a mostly enjoyable experience. The news comes quick and fast, but most linked articles are behind a paywall. I can get similar news coverage from Apple News with fewer paywall incidents. Many good posts from people and not much extremism. More like Twitter used to be.

I have 255 followers. My first computer had an 8 bit processor so 255 has special meaning. 🙂

I have been searching for a good book or documentary that discusses the pros and cons of the electoral college vs popular vote for electing the president. Can’t find one that is objective. Too much bias. Maybe I need to find one book from each perspective, but I can’t find those either. ☹️

Our state university library is moving more towards online books rather than physical books. Limits the benefits of state citizens accessing the library since you have to be on their network. A sad direction for libraries to take. ☹️

Libraries are awesome!
Sometimes I can’t believe that the library lets me walk out with an armful of books and I don’t have to leave them a credit card number or firstborn child or anything else in exchange.

Before you get excited about getting rid of the electoral college, you need to watch “Safeguard: an electoral college story” and read “American Covenant: How the constitution unified our nation - and how it could do it again”. Our forefathers understood the many factions in our nation.

Can’t up vote this enough!
Life tip: If you want a smarter kid, teach your child to read as early as possible and instill in them a love for books. Because as soon as they can read, they can teach themselves.

I wish that they would stop discussing the drone sightings. If they are doing something illegal, then arrest the operators. If they are just flying around or are actually manned vehicles, then who cares. Leave them alone. Since drones are legal, why are people freaked out by seeing them fly?
