Yes and a some quick googling suggests that my experience of only ever encountering Legos loose in a bucket has more to do with being a fourth child in the 1970s than with corporate strategy!

There’s a story there about how Lego flipped from selling simple blocks that imagination could turn into anything to selling kits full of exquisitely specialized blocks for specific, directed builds. I’ve never seen it written up, and it’s seldom even commented upon.

60 and worked in ‘84 and ‘85 for a company that made a real LAN for Kaypros. Why not? A Kaypro 2 cost around $2K and one with a 10MB hard drive north of $5K. And a single user would NEVER be able to fill a 10MB drive
