A year before the Ajax revolution under Rinus Michels with Krol, Cruyff, Neeskens and Rep, Feyenord were already motoring under Ernst Happel, with Van Hanegem, Israel, Kindvall, Jansen

My programme piece for City v Feyenoord this week will lean heavily on 1970, when both sides ruled Europe and Feyenoord were World Club Champions. Brilliantly, that Feyenoord side had not one but two players wearing spectacles, Rinus Israel and Joop van Daele. We need much more of this.
