There is still time to apply for a PhD on flash flooding and geomorphic changes in desert wadi systems! The PhD, through hydraulic and sediment modelling, will investigate these impulsive events, and also how nature-based solutions can be used to mitigate their effects. Apply at tinyurl.com/328mctvt

A fantastic opportunity to join us at @uoe-creww.bsky.social @exeter.ac.uk with two exciting PhD positions!
Two exciting EPSRC PhD opportunities in our group @uoe-creww.bsky.social @exeter.ac.uk . One to develop mechanistic understanding into the hydrological impacts of beaver wetlands. Another looks into modelling nature-based solutions for flash floods in deserts. See thread for further information ⬇️

Had a nice Christmas Eve walk in Monmouth today with family, and couldn’t help notice how large wood accumulated at the Monnow Bridge - just like I observed them in flume experiments! It always amazes me. Also did you know is the only remaining bridge in Britain with a gate tower on the bridge?

Just got this Government Alert on my phone (twice), yet the MetOffice warning is Amber and not Red, this can be rather confusing to people and maybe risks getting the opposite effect?

Today I really enjoyed my first ‘speed networking’ session as dissertation advisor for BSc students. Great to see a lot of interest for water quality issues and solutions in our rivers. Do you have any riverine water quality dissertations projects that students have been/are working on?

A bit of a personal note here: took this photo in 2021 while staying at the neonatal unit in Exeter, with our child born 5 weeks early. We were lucky enough to leave the hospital a few days later after a five-week stay. Happy World Prematurity Day!
