Had a nice Christmas Eve walk in Monmouth today with family, and couldn’t help notice how large wood accumulated at the Monnow Bridge - just like I observed them in flume experiments! It always amazes me. Also did you know is the only remaining bridge in Britain with a gate tower on the bridge?

It’s been a honour today to attend a graduation ceremony @universityofexeter.bsky.social, for the first time on this side of the stage! So pleased to have seen our #GIS MSc students graduating - such a fantastic group of the highest academic standard. Looking forward to teach this year’s cohort!

I recently completed my Academic Professional Programme at @uniofexeter.bsky.social and received the Fellowship status with the (former) Higher Education Academy. I really enjoyed improving my teaching to make it as inclusive and engaging as possible. Looking forward to more challenges. Ad maiora!

Just got this Government Alert on my phone (twice), yet the MetOffice warning is Amber and not Red, this can be rather confusing to people and maybe risks getting the opposite effect?

A bit of a personal note here: took this photo in 2021 while staying at the neonatal unit in Exeter, with our child born 5 weeks early. We were lucky enough to leave the hospital a few days later after a five-week stay. Happy World Prematurity Day!

I had the real pleasure to talk to the British Society of Geomorphology today on my work on large wood in rivers, from hazard to resource. It was great to see so much interest in the topic and to talk to colleagues in the field. A recording will be available soon and I’ll make sure to share it 😊

Had a lovely afternoon walk along the Granite Way in Dartmoor and around Meldon Reservoir. Amazing golden light and glorious weather. Always feels lucky to be able to visit our water resources at our doorstep

National Trust (UK) experimented this beautiful Stage-0 river restoration in Holnicote Estate: a thriving wetland with blooming wildlife. Thrilled to work on this project through our upcoming research on large wood in rivers, and incorporating it into our MSc GIS teaching @uniofexeter.bsky.social
