"Warrior ethos." What bullshit. We don't have, nor do we want warriors. We have & want soldiers, members of disciplined teams, not individuals who do their own thing. I have a five paragraph vivisection of this in the forthcoming OUP Handbook of American Military History.

It is only Monday and already I am identifying with this great blue heron having a bad hair day surrounded by turkey vultures

Kicked off our annual #Stratfest season with Macbeth. Absolutely amazing performance - original, visually stunning, and powerfully acted. Ranks among my favourites over the past 15 years. Looking forward to what other treats lie ahead

People think money has ruined football but the sight of a rapist dictator standing next to a corrupt football official in front of a big gold trophy at a competition bankrolled by Saudi Arabia reminds me the game still belongs to us.

I wonder whether Biggar, Ferguson and Co can fully appreciate the irony of what has become of this one-time symbol of empire

The Pentagon ordered a diversionary flight of B-2 bombers as misdirection, per NYT, because they were afraid Trump was giving the attack away to Iran via his social media posts

Almost none of my primary sources are even digitised, and if they are it’s because I took the photographs, turned them into PDFs, and donated them back to the archives in which they’re housed.

AI cannot do what I do.

This is some bleak shit. Historians literally outsourcing the creative and research process to a thieving algorithm ripping off the IP of their own fellow-historians.

Says everything that they’re doing it from a Google office.

Hacks. They should be ashamed.

We are very sorry to learn of the death of the military historian, Professor Brian Bond. As a leading figure in the development of war studies, and closely associated with King's College London, Professor Bond was also a Fellow @royalhistsoc.org from 1977. #skystorians

Sad news: I have heard that Professor Brian Bond died yesterday. He was 89. I last saw him three weeks ago. Brian was an immensely significant figure in British military history. He supervised my PhD (and 50 others) and I owe him a great deal. RIP.
