Yeah, I think you're right. And then those that do talk to me often misunderstand me, they assume when I say why I think something happens that I mean it's good that it is happening. Weird shit. But maybe I'm just not adding enough disclaimers* (*the latest fad).

You're not wrong. I just don't think abstaining is working. The far-right won big by being organized, unified, and ultimately getting folks to the polls.

I don't think they should move more rightward, I want exactly the opposite. However, I think they will continue moving rightward because too many folks on the left stay home (and then complain about being ignored).

And by sitting out the election they're signaling that Democrats should move rightward, 'cause it's easier to get voters to switch than to convince abstainers to actually get to the polls. Hence, the rise in fascism and the enormous mess we'll have to clean up over the next few decades.

Reminds me a little of the ol USENET message on one reader (rn):

"This program posts news to thousands of machines throughout the entire civilized world. You message will cost the net hundreds if not thousands of dollars to send everywhere. Please be sure you know what you are doing."

It's wild that we are OK with allowing farms to tell regulators they can't record information about workplace conditions. But folks just keep voting for this (or choose not to vote at all, same thing).

Substack pushes Nazi propaganda to its users that never signed up for Nazi propaganda, you should consider another platform.

IIRC Vanilla Coke (diet or otherwise) is also a good match
December 22, 2025 at 6:05 PM
Bad news: they're going to solicit voters, not abstainers, so they're going to move even further right. It's a bummer.

Needs an accompanying billboard showing them at a USDA "welfare office", hat in hand and on their knees, with a phone number they can call to get genuine guidance from Democrats.
December 21, 2025 at 11:15 PM
You're absolutely right! I wish I could write in an engaging way, but I just post nonsense dunks.

(I don't use AI to write prose, anyway; I don't want to waste people's time reading it. I do use it to write code and the only person's time I waste with that is my own)

The people that would blame the Dems would always blame the Dems, so what is the point in spending *any* effort courting them?
December 21, 2025 at 5:45 PM
FIFA's gotta feel pretty foolish right now
December 20, 2025 at 5:34 AM
IFF there were consequences, maybe. Like people going to prison consequences.
December 19, 2025 at 10:07 PM
Maybe they want to go back to the days when women couldn't have their own credit cards (not long ago).

Be the change you want to see

The honorable thing to do would be to release his findings publicly and without redaction.
December 17, 2025 at 8:19 PM
I'm going to need to see someone slicing off a piece of it every minute or so
December 17, 2025 at 7:19 PM
meh, wake us if he switches parties and starts voting against the gop
