Episodes two weeks in a row?! That should tell you how much great stuff there is. I was so happy to get to talk to @andrewhartman.bsky.social about KARL MARX IN AMERICA (@uchicagopress.bsky.social) and how he keeps going in the writing "grind." Listen here: draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis...

Happy pub day to Nishant Batsha (who seems, wisely, to not be on social)! I talked with Nishant about his first novel waaaaay back in episode 9 of @draftingthepast.bsky.social: draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis...
Hand holding a book with a red cover with two beige figures embracing, a beige fault line running between them. There are also yellow stamps resembling passport stamps or postage cancellation. The title reads "A Bomb Placed Close to the Heart," by Nishant Batsha

Listening to the Lyndal Roper episode on @draftingthepast.bsky.social I am cheered to learn she organised her research on the Peasants' War by drawing a grid on a really big bit of paper which she stuck to her wall. Also that she got to know some of the terrain she was writing about by cycling it.

This was a particularly good episode. The thoughtfulness, sincerity, and humility of @omarvaleriojimenez.bsky.social are inspiring. I also keep a log, and really liked his comment that it is good for ensuring you put in the required hours...but also for giving yourself some grace when life happens.

New! A true pleasure to talk with @omarvaleriojimenez.bsky.social about his book Remembering Conquest and about his writing routine, the importance of exercise, and whether his engineering background translates to his writing (hint: a work log!). Listen: draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis...
