Finishing this book wasn't exactly easy, but it's out there now and I can hardly believe it...

Anyone and everyone can read it and download it, as it is Open Access.

We are happy to come to your institution and present the findings in the Autumn, just drop us a line!

Our brand new monograph, discussing the findings of our work together during the last seven years, is now out for @oxfordacademic.bsky.social‬ and free to read and download!

We must emulate the United Arab Emirates, apparently.

Where to even start...?

How is Badenoch's version distinguishable, apart from "l am going to announce a review before making an announcement"?

It betrays a desperation to reassert stratified class, racial and gender hierarchies through something like UAE's authoritarian structures in the assumption that Conservative and Reform leaders or voters would always be at the top of such a new order

I was on a panel at Conservative conference today where the UAE model was seriously proposed as a direction to take Britain’s immigration system.

Or the maid, with the employer with grabby hands and nothing to eat but bread and noodles, no bedroom, and no way to leave.

Meloni weighing in today by claiming that Trump's plan is "a light that pierces the darkness". If a ceasefire can be established this would also make it less likely that massive demonstrations, like the one that has taken place in Rome today, will continue to take place.

As l say in my comments for this article, ultimately l do not think she will shift her position.

Spare a thought for Northern Ireland, the hostage of successive Conservative leaders trying to impress their members without a second thought for the consequences of their actions.

Much is changing in UK politics, but of this we can still be certain: plenty of people that matter in England would be hard pressed to even find Armagh on a map.

I'd love to see the survey data Badenoch and Salvini are basing their strategic communication on, suggesting there is such great appetite in their countries to be "more like Trump's America"...

Party leaders looking for quick fixes to impress older party members via references to a gold age of safety, warmth and community that never existed in those terms...

what could go wrong.

And Farage will always retort whenever he is out-Reformed: "you are the parties of government. Why didn't you do this when you could?"

So established parties end up validating his policies, while still lacking credibility.

Lose-lose.

British politics is basically a doom spiral of increasingly unhinged hostile policies.

Reform says something unhinged
⬇️
Labour counters with their own unhinged policy
⬇️
Tories shout from back they'll be even more unhinged
⬇️
Reform announces different unhinged proposal in response
⬇️
And repeat...🔁

The fact that Germany is also holding back on recognising a Palestinian state is a life saver for Meloni right now, since last thing she wants is for Italy to be the odd one out on any major international matter.

She's not Orbán, & Italy is not Hungary. Nor does she wants it to be under her govt.
dralbertazziuk.bsky.social
But the strength of feelings in the country over events in Gaza is obvious, and there is widespread sympathy for the plight of Palestinians even on the right. So, this is now a situation that Meloni finds difficult to handle.

Polanski does not need to win an election, he needs to break through. Hence focusing exclusively on 100% left wing voters is a perfectly rational strategy.

One which carries huge risks for the Labour party under FPTP...
