The lack of empathy being shown as thousands of people lose their jobs is depressing. These government employees are being fired indiscriminately--not based on audits or job performance but because a billionaire nepo baby, who bought an election & continues to get government contracts, deems it so.

Man this book is so, so good. A detailed historical account of crossing the Oregon Trail, with a bunch of cultural asides about what day to day life was like (the section on birth control and abortion was fascinating). Strong recommend, and I haven’t even gotten to The Whole Cannibalism Thing yet.

I hate this so much.
The Trump Administration’s hiring freeze has led the National Parks Service to cancel job offers for seasonal employees. We are concerned this could leave our parks understaffed during the busy summer season, which sees over 100 million visitors annually.

ICYMI- Trump has paused all NIH activities. The NIH is the single largest funding source for biomedical research in the world. If you were hoping for better treatments/cures for cancer, infectious diseases, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and so on, you should care about this. 1/
