Our lab’s latest paper is out now in Science Translational Medicine!

We show how dietary saturated fats—especially stearic acid—prime immune cells in the lung to drive inflammation, with implications for obesity-associated asthma and beyond! #Asthma #Obesity #STM

Dietary saturated fatty acids promote lung myeloid cell inflammasome activation and IL-1β–mediated inflammation in mice and humans
Obesity-associated saturated long-chain fatty acids regulate lung macrophage phenotype and function at steady state and during lung inflammation.

Thanks for your comment, Elaine! Yes, the data suggest that eating more unsaturated LCFA and less saturated LCFA could help asthma, regardless of obesity state, in some folks. We need to perform a randomized controlled Trial to test this hypothesis in humans.

The immunologic relationship between #IgE-mediated #food #allergy and #EoE has long been an unknown. I delve into this important topic in a new Perspective article out now in @aaaaiorg.bsky.social's Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

I don’t have many heroes. Jane Goodall was one of them. I’m thankful to have been able to witness the life of such an extraordinary primate.

I’m genuinely honored and incredibly excited to have been chosen as one of ten inaugural Pennsylvania Commonwealth-Engaged Scholars! I’m really looking forward to engaging with policymakers, legislators, and community stakeholders across this great Commonwealth!

Dietary saturated fatty acids skew monocytes and macrophages in the lungs toward an inflammatory phenotype and exacerbate airway inflammation in mice, shows a study that decrypts the connection between diet and lung immune cell activation. #ScienceTranslationalMedicine https://scim.ag/3JzRozE

Very happy to share that Hill Lab post-doc Olivia Harding, PhD has received an NIH F32 fellowship - Congrats Liv!

New paper just accepted at Science Translational Medicine!

Turns out that saturated dietary fats prime lung macrophages for IL-1β–driven inflammation—even in the absence of obesity!

Follow here to know as soon as it drops online!

Finally enjoying a break from the heat here in Philadelphia - Yes, its always sunny but no, its not typically in the 90s!

Grateful to the #NIH, #FoodAllergyFund, and our donors for making this work possible.

📉 Did early allergen introduction reduce #FoodAllergy rates?

Our multi-year, multi-state study of >100K kids says YES.

Peanut and overall IgE-FA diagnoses dropped after early introduction guidelines.

I’m very excited to share that Divyansi Pandey (Penn CAMB/CPM) will be joining the lab for her PhD! In addition, we have Crystal Wang (undergraduate from Dartmouth) and Emily Hughes (Penn VMD student) joining us for the summer! Lots of great science ahead in the Hill Lab!
