I really enjoyed participating in the Cycling & Society symposium at @glasgowcaledonian.bsky.social this week. I managed to get a photo of @ficrawford.bsky.social presenting our paper looking at how different impairments affect people’s participation in cycling.
Photograph of Dr. Fiona Crawford presenting at the front of a lecture theatre. The projector shows two bar charts with a title of cycling frequency, but it isn't possible to make out the details.

I do enjoy seeing an old sign underneath a newer one.
Photograph of the Thai Orchid restaurant on Argyle Street. Their sign overhead has been removed and under is an older sign which reads "Blythswood Press Agency".

That's disappointing. Sounds like something that would be very useful.

I'm not sure this was the intended use of the new cycle lane on Argyle Street.
Photograph of the cycle lane, road, and pavement on Argyle Street looking west. There is a large sign on a stand in the cycle lane announcing that the road on the right is closed. It is blocking the cycle lane.

Yes, it made me feel slightly better about how things are here.

A fascinating choice of where to put the crossing and street clutter. Spotted in Strasbourg.
Photograph looking across a pedestrian crossing. The near side of the crossing is difficult to access because of two poles, a large sign, a railing, and what looks like an electric vehicle charger.

I'm remotely attending the "Rethinking Accessibility: Insights from Transport Data Science" event at University of Exeter this morning. @rafa-vdz.bsky.social and I are presenting some of our ongoing work of producing public transport accessibility indicators at the @ubdc.bsky.social.
Screenshot of a PowerPoint title slide. The title of the talk is "An overview of an open-access accessibility dataset series in Great Britain. The speakers are Rafael Verduzco-Torres and David Philip McArthur. Logos are displayed for the Urban Big Data Centre, UKRI ESRC, and the University of Glasgow.

Have you got a few minutes to answer some quick questions on social and environmental policies?

One of my grad students would be very grateful for your help (UK only, sorry)

There is something deeply absurd about the modern pedestrian crossing. You press the beg-button and then you wait. And wait. And wait.

Interminable wait times reveal a deeper pathology. The pedestrian is, at best, an afterthought - at worst, an obstruction.

Several new people and orgs added to this starter pack since I first shared, so worth rechecking if you saw it previously.

Also, 📢 @gregmarsden-leeds.bsky.social and @jilliananable.bsky.social have now joined the party! 🎉

I've finally discovered Bluesky! I've found some great starter packs for transport, but most are North America focused. Thought I'd set up a UK focused one.

Let me know who else I can add!

[Many official orgs not over here yet - please let me know if they pop up]

I'd love to have this in Glasgow.

I think the botanical gardens at the People's Palace are still closed because the council couldn't afford to make the greenhouse safe. There are botanical gardens in the west end though. Those are worth a visit.

I'm always jealous of everyone's Spotify Wrapped stats bc I'm an Elder Millennial who still buys music and listens w/iTunes/Music, so I've always missed out.

BUT NOT THIS YEAR. I exported my library on January 1 and used #rstats to make my own

Kind of wishing I hadn't looked at the CO2 concentration on the Glasgow Subway this morning.
Photograph of the screen of a CO2 monitor. It shows 3830 ppm. It also shows a temperature of 19 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 63%. The device model, aranet 4, is also visible.
