They’re loving it! In her words, they’re finding it “beautiful, clean and safe”.

My mom and her BFFs from small town Nebraska are on vacation in Portland, OR... they've gone to a drag show and posed with the queens ("we learned a lot"), and drove by the ICE facility ("no protestors or violence"). These retired gals are revved up to drop truths all over Midwestern facebook.

OK???? GOOD BYE sounds like an emo-synth album from 2004 that I would very much enjoy.

LIFE AFTER is a gripping investigative documentary directed by disabled filmmaker Reid Davenport, looking at disability justice, healthcare, and autonomy, and available to rent from the film team directly on GATHR from Oct 6-13. Thought-provoking and worth the view and ensuing discussions!
A group of cheering people hold a sign that reads NOT DEAD / WE WANT TO LIVE!, front of the Capitol building. A man with dual canes kneels in front of sign, holding an American flag.

Drop (Hulu)! I watched it originally because my friend said how much his parents (unexpectedly) enjoyed it. Rebel Ridge, Woman of the Hour, Emily the Criminal, I Care A Lot (Netflix), Juror #2 (HBO Max), The Order (Hulu)... and I'd add Pig (Netflix) which isn't a thriller but does involve searching.

One Battle After Another and Sinners both lay out a formula for cinema success: diverse movies where white nationalists get duffed in the most graphic way possible shot and presented in increasingly baroque high resolution formats.

Oh, to be able to time travel and eavesdrop on the conversation between Paul Thomas Anderson and Maya Rudolph after she read the first draft of One Battle After Another.

Just did this. Very easy to leave a comment.
Feedback form from ABC in which I typed the comment (about their cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live): "Appalled that you are capitulating to censorship and state control of independent media. You had a chance to be on the right side of history but you chose fascism."

"He's been studying this window since he started." I am RIVETED.

Robert Redford was a true movie star and a brilliant director, and at the top of his game he spent his cultural currency to build an institution to foster and support independent film. His dedication to valuing new perspectives and emerging talent will forever inspire me. RIP to a champion.

I recommend Rye Lane to people constantly, so charming and swoony and inventive!

We got @wkamaubell.bsky.social and Kevin together again to talk Denzel (and bust each others' chops). It's all in honor of Spike Lee and Denzel's 5th movie together, the first in decades...and it's a Kurosawa remake?

A lot going on in Ep 419, #denzealots! #filmsky

On a black background, text reads "Highest 2 Lowest with W. Kamau Bell." Below this, a screenshot of four Zoom windows. Kamau, Drea, Alonso, and Kevin, each looking at the camera. Kamau makes a sour face; Drea and Alonso each raise an eyebrow. Kevin gives peace fingers. Below this, from left to right: an illustration of Denzel Washington wearing sunglasses, a black ball cap, and big headphones, from the poster for Highest 2 Lowest; the logo for Maximum Film!; an image of a laptop with a photo on the screen of Spike Lee and Denzel Washington each holding up 5 fingers, indicating their 5th movie together.

So dumb. And “someone found open debate too threatening to their own politics” is even dumber.

remember folks, we cant have gun restrictions because if we do the federal government will occupy our streets, imprison people without due process, ship dissidents to foreign gulags and things of that nature

Kate Beecroft's debut stars a real-life S. Dakota family playing a version of their own lives. Collider's Taylor Gates joins us to talk about Sundance Audience Award winner EAST OF WALL, and to pitch some movie ideas inspired by favorite real-world locations. #filmsky

A graphic reads "East of Wall with Taylor Gates" at the top, over a photo of a cloudy sky above the South Dakota Badlands. Below the text, a Zoom screenshot of Taylor Gates, Kevin, Alonso, and Drea, in their respective Zoom windows. Below this, from left to right: A close-up of a distressed looking Tabitha Zimiga, star of East of Wall; the Maximum Film logo; a group of kids riding horses (an image from the film).

I prepped for a month, labored over the perfect list, and squabbled with a bunch of lunatics to make an 11.5 hour long episode that can only be heard by Screen Drafts boosters. Loved it! With hobbies like these, who needs enemies.
