Tonight is #MischiefNight - night before Halloween (sometimes Bonfire Night) where eggs are thrown, fires are lit and there's general scary criminality and vandalism.
Wasn't part of my childhood (but still happens in the North East). First time I experienced it was as a student in Liverpool

Ariadne's Thread was a ball of wall given to Theseus to lay on the floor to help navigate his way out of the labyrinth after facing the minotaur.

Hawthorn hedges look amazing in their May blossom (and their autumn berries).
In folklore they’re associated with spring fertility and with faeries. Thomas the Rhymer entered another world via a hawthorn tree

‘Carlin Sunday’ is celebrated in Newcastle two weeks before Easter.
People eat carlin peas to commemorate the time when the city was starving under siege from the Scottish army and then a shipment of peas got washed up on the river Tyne.

Northumberlandia is an enormous sculpture of a woman made from a mining spoil heap in Northumberland.
It’s art so big it takes half an hour to walk around.
Great views from the top of her head looking across the county.

It wasn’t until 1987 that someone discovered this random stone at the side of a mountain in Northumberland actually had a 150cm hole through it which was perfectly aligned with the sunset of the summer solstice (and sunrise at Midwinter).
A great discovery!
