EXCITING NEWS: yesterday, I submitted the manuscript for my first book to Baylor University Press. Tentatively titled “Intellectual Disability and the Christian Life,” this book is an attempt to give language to the ongoing Christian witness of people with intellectual disabilities.

There seems to be a glitch in the matrix, why are @natewall.bsky.social’s skeet’s coming through your account?

“AI is inevitable” is a really weird claim for Christians to be making.

Another day, another example of AI being the literal worst technology we’ve invented in quite some time.

I’ll make some calls.

I regret to report that it doesn’t get better on the other side of the PhD.

No, I’ve just blocked the afternoon off for “writing.”*

Yeah, he develops that line in his inaugural address to the World Council of Churches, published in God Here and Now. Essentially, he’s taking about the event of the church, taking the church back from the Nazis, prioritizing the work of the Spirit in the body of believers.

I would also be willing to take a team friendly deal with a $12.5M AAV. Just saying.

One clarification: this statistic was published in 2015, which, shockingly, was a decade ago. I don’t think it would be a bold claim to suggest that trends towards the abortion of Down syndrome fetuses have not decreased, and if so, you can do the math on that…
drempel.bsky.social
I just read a statistic which estimates that over 90% of Down syndrome pregnancies in the US end in abortion, and assuming trends have remained stable over the last 20 years, that’s over one MILLION Down syndrome fetuses which have been aborted in the US alone.

Lord have mercy.

This is a key point: evangelicals in the US are not villains in this piece because their religious commitments tie them into the brutality. They are particularly tragic because they've abandoned their religious commitments to participate in the brutality.

If American evangelicals were actually biblical literalists, ICE wouldn’t exist.
Matthew 25 | NRSV
the king will say to those at his right hand,
'Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. " Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?
38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 3 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' 40 And the king will answer them,
"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my
family, you did it to me. Matthew 25 | NRSV
family, you did it to me? E a Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels;
42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. 4 Then they also will answer,
'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?'
45 Then he will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.'
46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Do you ever think about how the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God?

So The Society of Christian Ethics is really going ahead with meeting in DC in January? I wasn’t planning on going, but I can’t tell if this is brilliant or irresponsible.
