It surely didn't break out of spéirgorm (Irish bluesky) but when the heavily backed candidate for president, Jim Gavin, abandoned his campaign last week, many Americans broke into Irish conversations assuming we were mocking the California governor, Gavin Whatshisname.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Google search for "austria hungary in space"

Google excitedly tells you about the 1889 orbital flight, and that by 1908 there was a Mars research output with 30 people.

“One of the chants that has become ubiquitous at these protests at Broadview is, ‘Love your neighbor, love your God, save your soul and quit your job,’” said Black, who pastors at the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago. “Everybody chants that.”

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

More than anything, the massive subsidy to fast food chains has a real "it's 2007 again" feel to it

It's official. They're giving big restaurant chains a massive tax cut, costing nearly €700m in the #VAT cut to hospitality.

For that kind of money you could:

My physical copy finally arrived. All 1162 pages. I have never been more excited in all my life to get a new theological text. See you guys in a month.
Brian Brock's literally monumental Joining Creation's Praise, a theological examination of what it means to be a creature, founded on a remarkably creative reading of Genesis 1-11.

She could talk for "a very very long time" about the abuses she and her companions suffered but we have to take that on trust because all she wants to talk about is the plight of the Palestinian people.

An absolute model for fighting for justice.

This clip has been circulating a lot and look I don't want to be critical, it's great that it's inspiring people.

BUT. There is one thing he says that's inaccurate and it's important that people understand the reality.

He says that their trade union didn't support them. That's not true.

This is a key point: evangelicals in the US are not villains in this piece because their religious commitments tie them into the brutality. They are particularly tragic because they've abandoned their religious commitments to participate in the brutality.

If American evangelicals were actually biblical literalists, ICE wouldn’t exist.
Matthew 25 | NRSV
the king will say to those at his right hand,
'Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. " Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?
38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 3 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' 40 And the king will answer them,
"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my
family, you did it to me. Matthew 25 | NRSV
family, you did it to me? E a Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels;
42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. 4 Then they also will answer,
'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?'
45 Then he will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.'
46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
