Ok it's Prime Day or whatever and Amazon is gross but also if we are ordering stuff there WHY NOT ADD ON A PREORDER OF MY JUSTICE-FOCUSED BOOK. It's broadly accessible and has a positive message and will make you feel better when it finally ships.

Shamelessly,
Love,

It took me a loooong time to internalize that when I draw a line on a piece of wood, that line has a nonzero thickness. And so does the saw blade!

The first time I was doing crown moulding I measured the first three corners of the room at something like 87, 88, and 91. So I confidently predicted the fourth corner to be 94.

Imagine my shock when it measured 89, and it dawned on me that the ceiling could not be a plane.

Nope, but I think about these kinds of things often like when I had to whip out an inverse tangent to set my mitre saw angle to cut the diagonal support piece on a gate.

NPR could easily fill a desperately needed public service for trustworthy legacy media, and likely easily meet its own small dollar fundraising goals after having its federal funding pulled, by simply describing things as they are. But instead they choose to do whatever this is.

If your journal thinks a review from the bullshit machine should be placed alongside my expert feedback (*not* a mere "evaluation"!), then I will not be reviewing for your journal.

Oh FFS. Because what overburdened peer review systems really need is more noise between the reviewers & ACs. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Screenshot of AAAI automated review announcement reading:

1. Supplementary First-Stage Reviews: LLM-generated reviews will be included as one component of the
initial review stage, providing an additional perspective alongside traditional human expert evaluations.
2. Discussion Summary Assistance: LLMs will assist the Senior Program Committee (SPC) members by
summarizing reviewer discussions, helping to highlight key points of consensus and disagreement among
human reviewers.

Sorry, I thought it went without saying that one should buy a decoy bag to distract oneself from the other bag.

Just saw an ad for "Cobenfy" and really thought they were saying "Covfefe" until I saw it written in the corner.

Is this why in job interviews they like to ask "Tell me about a time that..."?

Yards per attempt, or better yet yards per dropback so that it's a rough per-passing-play efficiency measure.

I made a killer coffee chocolate porter 12 years ago or so. But I dont really like to drink 5 or 10 gallons of coffee beer (or pumpkin beer or generally any spice beer) so I haven't made it again since.

Their source for that number was this BLS page, which if you follow the links to the different disciplines gives a number of employees as of 2024. So I might be able to aggregate that into some secondary evidence.
