"When down 9 points late-ish, there’s a case that you should go for 2, because being down 8, you would have to go for 2 to draw even eventually anyway ... Although this logic seems sound, the data doesn’t suggest the effect is very significant (if it exists at all)."

Probably outdated now, but I remember this! Says that going for 2 down 9 after the TD is ~basically a neutral decision, which yeah, about lines up with what I'd have guessed

Oooo! As payment, I share my favorite playlist, of someone trying to learn Minecraft having never played or looked anything up, and figuring the entire game out through environmental clues!

Not intended for sleep, but tends to be on the quieter side, so I use it as great background noise

McMaster, meanwhile, required all of those plus a quantum course & a thermo/statmech course
November 19, 2025 at 5:21 AM
Michigan required an intermediate mechanics course, an intermediate E&M course, and a modern physics course (which had a week or two of quantum but was not a full quantum course), but that was it, IIRC?

Oh I want one so bad now

I haven't played Galaxy on Dolphin, but fwiw I've played other Mario games (like New Super Mario Bros. Wii) on it perfectly fine!

Clearly, the reason the job market for postdocs is so bleak is because you're hoarding every single faculty position /s

Barring layoffs of federal employees, and funding SNAP through the end of 2026, are the big ones. Those aren't enough IMO, but those are very far from nothing.

Schatz, Murray, and Murray are the three names I've seen thrown around the most

On the one hand, I don't like it, I think we could've gotten more

On the other, we're back in the exact same spot in three months, and people will be fed via SNAP through the whole of that shutdown, so Ds won't have to contend with that
November 10, 2025 at 3:35 AM
tl;dr:

- budget just runs through 1/30, with very little changes from this year's budget
- would force a ACA bill vote of Dems' choosing in December
- would fund SNAP through the end of 2026
- would reverse all the government firings since the shutdown, with protections against future firings

Nope, Cornyn's still MIA for some reason

I think it's a mix of
1) them having held out for so long
2) it not being the usual suspects voting yes here
3) them getting SOMETHING out of it (even if not enough to many)
4) this CR only being through January
5) more people being seriously hurt by the shutdown than last time
November 10, 2025 at 1:59 AM
yep
November 10, 2025 at 1:52 AM
Current official D yeses are Durbin, Hassan, Kaine, King (several haven't voted yet though)
November 10, 2025 at 1:42 AM
Same, I can't hear how people are voting
November 10, 2025 at 1:31 AM
I mean, I don't see anything saying this is Schumer's doing? Maybe I missed something, but I haven't seen Schumer coming out in favor of this compromise

Agree today's deal is a bad one, though
November 10, 2025 at 12:42 AM
Newer reporting has more info too -- better than reported this morning.

I still think it's a really bad move, but I at least see the vision on "we got all we can out of this, give us 3 months to get the caucus together and ensure people are safe before we have another government shutdown in Feb"
"More than enough" Senate Democratic Caucus members to pass shutdown deal led by Shaheen, King and Hassan, source familiar with deal says

- CR through Jan. 30
- ACA bill vote on bill of Dems' choosing in December
- Minibus has RIF reversals and "protections" against them in future
