It has. I’ve compared old v new definitions of “historic” for ILI + pneumonia data in 0-4 & 5-17, inc adjustment for pop’n growth.

Need to doublecheck my work before sharing implications, ie how many SD we are above the pre-pandemic avg.

I hope to find more figures w old historic avg to see what inferences can be made.
But I’m toast rn. My kiddo brought home ILI from school. She and *many* peers have missed 1-2wks of school due to ILI.

I‘d hoped to find figures with just the subset of influenza-like illness to determine the pre-pandemic historic avg for it.
Wish I’d taken more screenshots of the subsets of data… but how was I to know they’d switch to a 2y running avg? All I know is the old historic avg was a lot lower.

We’ve had some unprecedented “respiratory seasons” recently. This produces an extremely high “historic baseline” which essentially normalizes unprecedented illness.

We’re now at >2 SD above the 2y rolling “historic” baseline which was calculated during years of extremely high rates of illness…😬
