Science, sailing, sea and scattering (X-ray flavor). Against genocide in any form. Opinions are mine.

Found a piece of engineering art: a CF flange with two tiny KF flanges welded to it, in the compactest possible configuration. Kudos to the welder for making this work.

Thanks for the extra information, I learned something 😊.

Was getting fed up with our previous two Severin induction plates shorting out after one year. So this time I decided to test if pro models are better than the newer sibling. Cost 300 vs 70 Euro, and there’s a massive power difference. Will report back on the findings.

That looks… radical.

Still one of the most elegant games in existence.

It's been one of those weeks. We've been hard at work on a temperature-jump experiment, but discovered trouble with the detector motions. Cue some troubleshooting and finding that a broken microswitch had broken some more, leading to some emergency X-ray surgery before the Christmas run. 🧪⚛️

I have a whole collection from last time we were there, and I love them!

Nice, looking forward to reading that as it might have practical uses for my research field (as mentioned suppressing scattering above a limit). Glassy carbon has the advantage of having a high scattering cross-section and a low total absorption cross section. And as we know:

Next step in the genocidal land-grab appears to be to let the inhabitants leave but not return.
Apropos, interesting title change by @apnews.com (compare to screenshot).

Enjoyed a great jazz concert in our local Berlin jazz club ZigZag. And at the end we found out that the tenor sax player is the director of Jazz studies at Yale. I guess this counts as a research trip then? 😅
