An Israeli prison guard deliberately slammed a metal door on the already broken leg of a 70-year-old Scottish woman who was abducted from the flotilla.

Torture.

Margaret Pacetta, 70, from Glasgow, Scotland, is one of four Scots who participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla. Pacetta arrived in Istanbul Airport on Saturday afternoon along with 136 other activists.

5. Even back in Ireland, my culture is Presbyterian Irish-Scot. My family's DNA is about 98% Scottish - so even though we have been in Northern Ireland for more than 200 years, my DNA links me much closer to a country I don't know much about and don't feel part of.

4. But while I feel "Canadian", I am also aware of being an immigrant. And I am bothered by anti-immigrant sentiment, both in Canada and Ireland. My adopted country of Canada is a country made up of immigrants, outside of the First Nation people.

3. It was a good move. We avoided the bulk of the Troubles, had a good life with a more diverse group of friends and I ended up marrying a French-Canadian woman of Irish Catholic ancestry.

2. We emigrated to Canada in 1968 at a time where British immigrants were peaking and the rosters of Canadian doctors were stuffed with Irish, Welsh, Scottish and English physicians. I work as an emergency physician at the hospital now - my son volunteers there, starting his journey.

1. Shout out to @neilhegarty.bsky.social for the kindness of sending me a copy of his debut novel. I do enjoy getting a package from back home. The hospital in the foreground is where my father, a general surgeon trained at Queen's in Belfast, practiced for his career.
