It’s been over a week since Utah State Board of Education received notice from the DOE that congressionally approved grants have been withheld from the 7/1 release date. Where is the strongly worded letter from our governor like the one against student loans?

Granite SD approved next year’s budget. If you live in GSD, read the budget (as they don’t think you will)…well not all of it 😅 Check out the expenditures at p22+. See the property tax increase due to unfunded #utleg mandates & earmarked money sent to private schools instead.

GOOD BILL: HB132 is a responsible bill. It aims to make it a misdemeanor for an actor in which a minor gain access to loaded gun that is not secured. This does not restrict 2nd amendment rights. It places gun safety/handling responsibility on the owner, instead of solely on the child.

HB192 balances the type of expenses allowed under the private school voucher program. Like public school expenditures there should be limits, especially if programs are available through our public schools. We should be diligent in preventing fraud & waste of taxpayer dollars.

Even with the substitute, the majority of the Republican legislature is failing to fully listen to hard working public employees. HB267 is a misplaced priority. Let’s focus on the actual issues facing Utahns.

BILL OF THE YEAR 🏆: SB173 aims to create a universal school meal option & fund. Read more about why I think this is a fiscally responsible decision from my op-ed last year: www.deseret.com/opinion/2024...

INNOVATIVE BILL: HB206 via Rep Hayes aims to address chronic absenteeism, a big issue that we have made little progress on, using a novel approach. Follow this bill & consider showing your report.

PUNITIVE BILL: HB267 is a punitive bill. Be sure to sign the petition. I encourage all local board members that have received local education association support to sign this, speak to legislators, & mobilize their community to do the same.

Speaking of sex education, HB233 is a BAD BILL as it seeks to limit professionals & local experts from providing instruction or health-related material if they are affiliated with a place that performs abortions; practically those who should be teaching about health.

STUPID BILL: HB104 aims to mandate a yearly unknown curriculum for K-6 students on gun handling & safety. IT IS OPT OUT 👀

Remind you that sex education is OPT IN

BAD BILL: Familiarize yourself with SB37, which routes local property taxes designated to public school districts through the state instead. It helps the state better plan for tax cuts & vouchers funding, & can be used as a transaction.
