We spent the past 2 months hunting for nymphs of the spotted lanternfly in the garden. Found & removed hundreds. Now adults are emerging. 😭

I’ve been reorganizing parts of the #collection, incorporating material, replacing old trays, & building a #taxon catalogue as I go along. Recently I worked on these neat spotted-winged antlions (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae: Dendroleon obsoletus).

I’ve been moving a 1930s collection of (mostly) Ohio grasshoppers from substandard cork-lined trays to the foam-lined kind. Goal’s to increase specimen safety & accessibility. In parallel we’re preparing a list of all grasshopper taxa in the collection’s holdings. 🤓🦗

How’s everyone doing? Thanks for following. I’m going to try & get back to regular postings. These striking butterflies are Anteos clorinde of the Pieridae. I’m 2/3 of the way done w/ the curation of that family.

Much needed new specimen storage trays, aka unit trays, were delivered earlier this week. Trays hold dry insect specimens and are stored in large wooden insect drawers with glass cover. Drawers are kept in well-sealed metal cabinets.
