Is something going on here? I can’t find anything historically under hashtags for either Wednesday WIP of #PoemsAbout I was looking for some feedback someone gave me and it all seems to have disappeared. Is it just me?

It’s Wednesday. Got a WIP?

Doesn’t matter if it’s raw or rolling. If it’s yours, it belongs.

Drop a line. Share a note. Let us know where you’re at.

Good morning, Bluesky. We’ve hit midweek and I’ve achieved very little. Perhaps not something to declare publicly! Hope your week is going better.

A local walk along the river Beauly for today’s photo. Sunshine and calm.

Have a great day.

Bluesky over a river and river bank taken at a curve. Shrubs and saplings visible on the right bank and forestry on the horizon. Calm, clear water.

It’s communication. Does it need to be useful? Maybe… 🤔 Glad you got home OK. 😘

Books aren’t just for launch month. This one’s got roots. Still growing. Still finding readers.

Book cover of This Wilderness & Other Concerns by Martin Kennedy Yates, published by The Broken Spine. The cover artwork depicts an urban canal or waterway running between old brick and industrial buildings, with graffiti on one wall and a dark, moody atmosphere. A quote from writer and poet Jonathan Davidson reads: “These poems are a pleasure both to encounter and to read.”

The scariest thing this Halloween? A poetry award that never happens. We’re clawing our way toward £5,000, using our own funds, but it still won’t be enough. If you believe in a fee-free, well-funded poetry prize, now’s the time to act. 🔗
A Poetry Award That Puts Poets First – And You Can Make It Happen - The Broken Spine
Poets deserve more than empty prestige. They deserve real recognition, real opportunities, and real support. That is why I am launching The Broken Spine

It was, sadly another typo and should have been ‘I’ which is very funny, actually! 😂
drnaturegirl.debbiemross.co.uk
Wasn’t expecting one, given you’d said you were busy! Thanks though.

Thanks, David. You are most generous.

It wasn’t a criticism! Delighted to read it again x

For this week’s #PromptCombo from poety maestro @hool415.bsky.social here’s my daft wee offering for #visitors
A poem by Debbie Ross

Taken By Surprise
Swipe the dust, grab the laundry pile, shut the door
to the kitchen pile up, smooth down the sofa thrown,
check the mirror in the hall
for signs of discomposure - You've got visitors at the door.

I'm not sure it turned out how I initially meant it to. May revisit the "Madness as visitor" concept later on down the line without the form. But it was fun to attempt and embellish the #madrigal as it was. Enjoy 🤗

Madness arrived as a welcome visitor.
She brought gifts of manic merriment and wine,
often spilling secrets, most of them were mine.

One part benevolent, one part sinister
yet her presence felt immaculate, divine,
as Madness arrived, a welcome visitor
bringing gifts of manic merriment and wine.

On my heart, she neatly penned her signature.
In her absence I shake, weep, and pine.
The allure of her presence as if by design
as Madness arrives, a welcome visitor.
She brings gifts of manic merriment and wine
often spilling secrets, most of them are mine.

Hi @hool415.bsky.social Julian. Here's my second for #promptcombo #visitors. Hope its the poem you remember:
Our Street Cleaner

strangers with grabby sticks, hi vis vests,
hoodies against May showers
hauling open grey wheely bins
either side of morning terraced streets
answering mobiles connected
to their workmates
that work other streets

five years ago only Tom
with black metal cart
festooned with pink
baby dummies, at Christmas
tinsel wound round
the black handle
greets stallholders
by name and a smile.

Walk

That afternoon
the clouds were sullied
holding their breath of rain,
and the wind
one-handed, shyly
circled the trees again.

It was an hour
when the streets were clear
just an old man, his slowed dog,
and the nearby knock
of a Macmillan Nurse.

It felt like a hole in the day:
where time had fled
and the emptiness left
carried no anticipation.

I thought much of that nurse
and the house overrun
with the dry rot
of cancer,

how perhaps
round a downstairs bed
she helped like a priest,
dissolve the glass,
so the clouds and the wind
could be welcomed.
