Apologies in advance for what might look like a rambling diatribe going nowhere. But the one thing I know really well - better than almost anyone else - is boxing. And there’s a really valuable lesson from boxing that the Democratic Party needs to learn in a hurry.

Let’s start with the boxing bit.

that johnson is more terrified of seating a duly elected democrat who could force an epstein vote than having the entire government shut down really makes me wonder about that epstein vote tbh

They’re at least throwing sand into the gears. Don’t underestimate how important it is just to slow these assholes down. Yes, it would be great if SCOTUS wasn’t completely in the tank for Trump, but they can’t hear every case, and the district judges are doing their part to throw the brakes on.

Don’t get me wrong, writing appellate opinions is tremendously fun, and the work product is consistently excellent, but it’s basically the difference between storming Omaha Beach and writing an academic article about the impact of storms on Omaha Beach.

The district court docket is so much more challenging than appellate work. At any given time, you’ve got 500 active matters with a dozen substantive civil motions on calendar every week, not to mention criminal trials and sentencing.

Appellate judges hear a dozen cases every few months.

I’m biased because I clerked in the district court, but federal district judges as a group are the most consistently excellent group of lawyers in the country.

I worked for an appellate judge, too, and there are many great ones, but also a huge contingent of ivory tower arrogant tools.

As a group, District Judges (from across the ideological spectrum!) performing as well as just about anyone right now in defending democratic liberty.

But, Helen, can it tell you about white genocide? Because Elon’s robots can’t do all that other stuff, but hoo boy, they can talk about white genocide.

[wipes tear] I remember when it was just Nate Jackson…

(How did none of us dub him “hack-son”? Deadspin commenters were highly overrated.)

You’ll never get a job writing for him now that he’s capable of generating this sort of content.

A post from failed real estate agent and local ghoul Chaya Raichik aka LibsOfTikTok targeting me. Text of the post reads:

“Leftist CA State Assembly candidate Chris Kluwe, who promotes the harassment of ICE online, was ARRESTED at a Huntington Beach City Council meeting earlier this year.

Chris was protesting a proposed library plaque that featured a phrase similar to ‘Make America Great Again’

Chris called MAGA a ‘Nazi movement’ before leaving the podium and approaching the council member, where he was grabbed by police and carried out.

This unhinged lunatic wants to be an elected official…”

Thanks for the free advertising, Chaya!

I’ve made one of my closest friends, found out an article I wrote was being discussed on CNN in real time, laughed at a ton of great jokes, and educated the world about the Beastie Boys’ greatness and Floyd Mayweather’s wretchedness.

I also met @ugarles.bsky.social, but hey, nothing is perfect.
