Starting off the New Year with some spooky blackened death rock from Nourishment. Nice basslines and icy, dread-filled vibes.

⋆。°✩✧NINATAHEC✧✩°。, the sweet punk-ish pop project from Damián Ojeda (Trhä, sadness, etc.) now has a batch of songs up on Bandcamp that I believe (?) were previously only available through his Patreon. Grab this for NYP and bring some light to your life!

Very much enjoying Flow and Fracture, a serenely unfolding ambient release from Jo Johnson. A nice reflection of the enveloping nature of drift and drone.

New Barbelith/Trhä split rules. Barbelith is focused and crushing with fury and majesty. Trhä, well, this takes to their sound to a blistering, almost classical level. Members of both projects wrote, recorded & performed on each track apparently. More please!

Sifting through 2025's releases across six carefully considered themes/genres, Resident Advisor's year-end feature makes for an enlightening and lovely read. It's nicely designed and totally bursting with supporting links. Mahalo!

While Squire had the skyscraper guitar lines and Reni had a one of a kind rhythmic fluidity, Mani's bass really anchored so many of the Roses' classic tunes. Rip and thank you for the music.

This is so damn cool. Hiro Yamamoto reprising his unhinged vox on Soundgarden's classic smash em up "Circle of Power." With Matt Cameron on guitar!

The dense and carefully constructed songs on the new Yellow Eyes album Confusion Gate are mindblowing. Really digging the entire album, but that epic closing title track is one of the best black metal songs I've heard in the past few years.

Perc's new EP Soft Launch brings a punk intensity with crunchy drums and roughened sonic textures. The stop start bomb beats and loopy vocals deepen the disorienting, pummeling vibes. It's yet another great release in a year full of killer techno EPs.

Efdemin's new album Poly is a winner. As with past work, he builds these tracks with heavy drums and environments that are detailed but never too busy. Poly is a great return after 6 years away and it shows minimal techno can still pull you in with space and groove.

Abriction's new one Forbidden Bounds (mostly) loses the shoegaze atmospheres and instead smashes harsh metal and hardcore together with catchy pop structures. The more direct spikiness is a huge part of the attraction here and I'm very much down for it.

Having a supremely hard time thinking of how to describe III by Gates of Dawn. Iron Maiden-esque black Metal operating at peak prog rock with bits of blues and funk added to the mix. A super unorthodox sound that's loads of fun to listen to by any measure.

Adding to the chorus - The Spiritual Sound by Agriculture is pretty great. Amazing guitar work (forgot how much I missed solos) and frantic tempo changes make this keeper. Such a joyful vibe when a group's vision and talent come together like this.

Great article from Alessandro Giustiniano about the psytrance-minimal mutant sound coalescing in the techno scene. An amalgam of pointillist sounds and kick-centered percussion building into a sound field of disorientation. Speedy, trippy - what else do you need?
