Terrible news that two people were killed in Manchester attending their place of worship at the synagogue in Manchester, with others seriously injured.

Community Security Trust @cstuk.bsky.social who do so much to keep Jewish people safe at faith and community spaces have issued this advice.

Part of the burden of Jewish history is being touched, and proud, that the British police rushed to the site of this atrocity and that the reaction of the British prime minister was to send police reinforcements to synagogues. For millennia, this was not so. It is not taken for granted.

Harrisson was politically committed - laureate blocked!

His poem 'Laureate's Block' happily scuppered his own chances of becoming Poet Laureate.

RIP Tony Harrisson

Saddened to to hear about this great loss. Harrisson was immense. He could do satire, lament, dramatic verse, TV, spoken word poetry, elegy, poetic journalism, translation, dialect - no finer exemplar of the classical vernacular will you find.
