Speaking of left out as a leftist professor at a CA university: when the Democratic Party sets goals, my values and priorities are never left in. They always wind up far to the right of me, never the left.

Democrats aren’t a sports team. They’re not our favorite super heroes. Electeds are our employees. If we don’t tell them when they’re doing a bad job, then we’re not being a good boss. If they don’t improve, we fire them. The letter next to their name isn’t a shield against being bad at their jobs.

If I erased the evidence against me in an ongoing trial, I’d be charged with “evidence tampering,” and I could go to jail for a decade.

Then we listen to songs from the 50s and talk about how different they sound from the 1990s music, compared to the difference between 1990 and 2020, and how pop culture stopped evolving in 2000, and we’re trapped in a Gen X teenage fantasy forever.
