I work in grants. From my POV, the solution is not to compete for crumbs, but to put that effort into banding together across institutions to stand up for research. We need to yell at politicians and make sure Americans know what they’ll lose if university research ends.

Earlier today, ASBMB joined three other scientific societies in leading a substantial, 22-page amicus curiae brief in support of the plaintiffs in American Public Health Association v. NIH. This is a formal public submission to the court.

Text reads: A message to ASBMB members. The background is an illustration of the neurotransmitter glutamate being transported by synaptic vesicles to the presynaptic membrane.

Just back from #ASBMB2025 and it was exactly what I needed.

Being surrounded by my fellow MOSAIC scholars and coaches reminded me that they can terminate our funding but not the community that we’ve created and community is everything in times like this 💕
Person holding a name badge that says MOSAIC scholar and diversity matters. ASBMB conference sign that reads carry on—you’re moving science forward.

Congratulations to you both!

Sending hugs. See you in a few weeks?

Many brilliant scientists are now being punished by having our funding terminated because we are from underrepresented groups. We did everything right and we EARNED these awards. Remember us when you’re making decisions on whether DEI should be sacrificed to “protect” research funding. #InMyFeelings

Finally got the notice. Very sad day for the MOSAIC program that supported some of the most amazing scientists I know, as well as some of the awesome people on my lab.
Letter from the NIH indicating that my grant has been terminated (though it seems we can keep the remaining funds for this year?)

Our lab is excited to hire a postdoctoral researcher to study the mechanisms that viruses use to ‘hijack’ TAM receptors in viral spread. We are looking for someone who is excited to learn new techniques and work in a highly collaborative team! Please share!

So proud of my first graduate student for successfully defending her thesis yesterday!

Karen is an incredible scientist with a ton of consulting experience. If you know of any life science industry/consulting agencies in the LA area who are hiring, let me know 🤗

The people in power intend to completely annihilate scientific infrastructure, capacity, & research in the US. No institution will be spared if its mission is to advance science.

Everyone is already a target, whether you speak up or not. So, institutions, consider speaking up.

I submitted an ESI MIRA for the February deadline and mine was assigned to a study section too. Hopefully yours will update soon!

Finally a Friday evening with GOOD news 🙌🏽

So grateful for people who are willing to stand up and fight for what’s right instead of prematurely bowing to injustice.
