Thanks to the excellent work by Annemarie Franz and Prof. Driscoll of UofG Archaeology, producing and editing the latest Govan Early Medieval podcast was an absolute breeze, and what an exciting early medieval discovery in Govan Old's 1,500-year-old churchyard!

I can't be sure, but I think so. Alison Taylor, a geologist who researched pingos in the S. Cambs. landscape certainly thought so, as did Christopher Taylor, the great landscape historian.

Resurrecting ponds and lakes would add biodiversity and possibly also provide more freshwater fish for our diets (presumably there's a whole possible thread about historic fishponds). And we just need to make ponds where the landscape tells us they should be!

Are spring- and rain-fed lakes of water that appear in parts of Cambridgeshire in winter also the remains of similar ponds? bsky.app/profile/drsu...

THREAD. So much rain has the fields floating in water. Not quite the conditions yet of 2021 - the images in this thread - but, in the east of England, still a practical lesson explaining so much about land use before under-field drainage began in the 17thC.

A quick reminder: if you read something you love, don't forget to write to the author to thank them for it, and tell them why you loved it.

The thick time mountain clapper bridge forever crossing the black waters of the Afon Arthog stream and leading to the enigmatic ancient hut remains of Llys Bradwen #Meirionnydd
Photo of roughly hewn giant grey stones forming a bridge over a black stream dappled in sunlight. The surrounding grass is bright lime green and there is a jumble of more grey rocks on the opposite stream bank and a few small leafy summer trees. In the distance a large grey craggy mountain looms up to a grey cloudy sky - but the pervasive light by the bridge is bright and clear. The sort of place you always want to return to and will always be there.
