New Introduction post! I'm Tess! I'm a disabled, queer, trans, neurospicy, musician, producer, game maker & poet! I run Moth Mother studios: an 800 sq/ft. music production studio in Central Illinois.

Currently making audiodrama, audiobooks & trouble & always looking for gigs & collaborators.

This isn't an error that is made by accident. It's not an oversight or a careless mistake: it is an intentionally harmful breach of the trust of vulnerable patients in their institution's care. It's a methodological flaw that undermines any conclusions published.

In my previous department, a breach of this nature would have been grounds to revoke or deny tenure. A student committing this error would be dismissed without hesitation. It isn't just harmful to the patients, it undermines the process of inquiry itself, and the results produced have ZERO validity.

These are patient records being disclosed in public research findings. Of children. In a population subject to immense discrimination, dehumanization, and misrepresentation. Furthermore, it is qualitative data being analyzed out of context and published without member-checking it for accuracy.

If you haven't ever had to apply for IRB approval to conduct human subject research I don't think you can appreciate how profound of a violation of ethical research practices this is. This is information collected from a vulnerable community in a medical context disclosed without consent.

Oslo University Hospital caught using trans patients' journals for research purposes:
- Without the patients' consent to participate in research
- Affecting minors
- 1700 of them
- Taking highly sensitive information from said journals

This is a HUGE breach.

Turns out a Transatlantic flight is a pretty great place to write, turbulence aside, because I just finished a new chapter! Of course, it's on my laptop, which is not connected to the network, which means that it's just going to have to rattle around in my head for the next 6 hours, all forlorn.

Had to unpack my sweater to get my suitcase under the weight limit, and with it tied around my waist I'm feeling like I have the arms and shoulders to do a fierce Avatar Korra cosplay! (Although this outfit is very much Korra in Earth Kingdom drag!)

Airport fit + a little color in my hair!

Living the jet setting transexual dream!

I love this!

My dad's cousin was a violin maker. He trained with a master luthier in the Black Forest in Germany. He had stories about following his teacher into the woods at night to knock on trees to see which ones would be good for violins.

That's what your story reminded me of!

I'm actually (very slowly )working on something in this space that draws on the rituals my partners and I have done, and blends it with workshops I teach at the intersection of my scholarly work (on narrative and activism) and intuitive practice.
