Today marks two years since the horrific attacks by Hamas and other armed groups on #Israel - in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage in Gaza.

We mourn every civilian lost in those tragic attacks and all who have suffered since.

Every time you smoke or vape, you're spending money on a product that harms your health, leading to issues like cancer and heart disease.

But you have a choice: you can stop funding that harm and instead, invest in a healthier future.

Your body will thank you. 🚭

I welcome Hamas’s commitment to release the hostages & Israel’s support of the US peace plan for #Gaza, which includes stopping the bombing within the Strip.

In two years, we have never been closer to securing peace than now. We cannot miss this opportunity. Too many lives been lost and shattered.

Al-Aqsa itself is overwhelmed and facing severe shortages of medical supplies, as more people flee south from the north.

@who.int reiterates its call for the protection of health care and for unhindered access to aid into and across Gaza.

We urge all parties to deliver peace, now!

Today, @who.int transferred 3 critically ill newborns from Al-Helou Hospital in #Gaza City to Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah to receive lifesaving care that could no longer be provided at Al-Helou.

A 4th baby, who had been scheduled for transfer, died this morning before the mission’s arrival.

66 000 people have been killed & almost 170 000 have been injured in #Gaza.

@who.int estimates that at least 1/4 of those have life-changing injuries that require immediate & ongoing rehabilitation.

I call on all parties to this conflict to choose peace, now.

People are living longer and we can all benefit greatly from the wisdom and experience of older persons.

On the International Day of Older Persons, we call on countries to ensure inclusive health care for people of all ages, so that everyone can reach their full potential at every stage of life.

After a week at #UNGA marked by divisions, playing football with my grandson Kai last night reminded me of the joy and hope found in simple moments.

May leaders everywhere choose peace so that every family can cherish their moments together.

The situation in #Gaza City is disturbing & alarming. Attacks on & around health facilities are making it impossible to deliver life-saving care.

We stand with our @msf.ca colleagues in calling on Israel to ensure safe access & protection for health workers, patients, & medical aid.

Ceasefire now!

These rooms should be filled with newborn cries, the beeping of monitors, pregnant women being cared for, patients finding relief amid a genocide.

Instead, these rooms now stand empty because MSF was forced to evacuate our last functioning health facility in Gaza.

No other risk factor claims as many lives as #hypertension.

1 in 5 people with hypertension have it under control.

The biggest barrier: access to 💊 & affordable, validated blood pressure devices.

If we can control hypertension in just 1/2 of those affected, we can prevent 76M deaths by 2050.

#UNGA80 happens at a moment of global turbulence.

But one truth stands out: no nation can face today’s crises alone.

Unity, solidarity and multilateralism remain our best hope for peace, for stability and #HealthForAll.

The insecurity and siege of El Fasher, #Sudan, have led to a surge in hunger and injuries of people trapped in the city.

We call for immediate, safe and unimpeded access to El Fasher to deliver life-saving aid.

The best medicine is peace.

The continued destruction of #Gaza City's health facilities will cause more deaths and further overwhelm already overcrowded hospitals in the south.

Attacks on health facilities must end. The senseless violence must stop. Ceasefire!

Yesterday’s attack on a Palestinian Medical Relief Society primary health care center in #Gaza City turned it into rubble.

Two health workers were reportedly injured.

It was among a few functioning facilities, providing blood donation, testing, trauma care, cancer & chronic disease treatment.
