Not everyone who uses drugs has an addiction, but those who do may need a range of social services including treatment, housing, recovery services, detox, overdose prevention services, and more. What don’t they need? To be criminalized.

Real marijuana reform means ending federal criminalization and building a system based on health, safety, justice, and community investment.

Rescheduling can’t do that.

Descheduling—paired with Congressional action—can.

Rescheduling would acknowledge marijuana’s medical value. It could also lift some research restrictions and boost corporate profits.

Yet, arrests, housing/job barriers & gaps in safety, labeling, and worker protections would remain.

Worcester, MA’s approach to rising overdose deaths shows what’s possible when communities bring care directly to people most impacted. Mobile methadone vans, readily available Naloxone, and a local drug-checking program can detect the presence of fentanyl. www.npr.org/2025/11/30/n...

42 million people could lose SNAP benefits, starting 11/1. SNAP is a lifeline to many people struggling with addiction or returning home after incarceration. Cutting SNAP puts another barrier in their way, limiting chances at successful recovery & reentry. Take action: protect SNAP bit.ly/3JvkYXf

Nearly 9 in 10 Americans back legalization—but federal punishment won’t end until marijuana is descheduled. Only then will people be free from arrest, losing homes/jobs & businesses get protections. Moving marijuana to Schedule III keeps criminalization in place engage.drugpolicy.org/secure/tell-...

Methadone is one of the most studied, safest, & most effective medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), cutting overdose risk by about half. But due to strict regulations, it’s only available through federally approved opioid treatment programs. Learn more at drugpolicy.org/resource/med...

These parents lost children to overdose or have kids living with addiction. Their message is clear: care saves lives, not wars.

People use drugs for many reasons — including to manage physical or emotional pain.

If we want real solutions, our response has to start with addressing the root causes of addiction, not just the symptoms. That's why we advocate for more treatment, health services, economic security, and housing

Stephen Murray’s journey to stability began with support, not punishment. Forcing people into treatment can worsen outcomes and increase overdose risk. With high costs and long waitlists, many struggle to get help. That’s why he calls for accessible care grounded in healing, dignity, and safety
