A year or so after Communique, #DireStraits came back with their third album, "Making Movies". This is another that I didn't know well at all. I knew the lead tracks, Tunnel of Love and Romeo & Juliet. But each of the other tracks here are new to me.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that #PinkFloyd's "The Wall" was a regular student selection during our weekend stage crew work, back in high school. #LesMiserables was similarly an every-week faculty selection, and it became something I loved, and still do.

Took a ride with a large group of folks to honor and remember Alex Pretti and all the others killed by ICE. Thanks to @babski.bsky.social for organizing the #BikeChi event, and @bikegridnow.org for supporting and marshaling!

Winter cyclists … is this a terrible fender to have for riding in the snow? Is there too much risk of clogging and freezing with this? Would I be better served removing it? Or will this be okay for city street riding, basically for one ride?

Feed cleanser - oldest aviation image on my phone.

2014 Chicago Air and Water show. I live near the northern turnaround for the faster jets, and used to be able to get on my building’s roof to watch.

This little project is supposed to be my way of finding joy in the world, and spreading that joy to my tens of followers.

There is no joy after this weekend, and these past few weeks. What's happening in Minneapolis and around the country; there is no joy.

Hopefully next week.

28 hours
40 building days
99 calendar days

It was fun! But it was a little more repetitive than I hoped it would be. Not planning to take it apart so I can do it again. And from a purely building experience perspective, I’d go with the Shuttle Carrier.

But still a fun distraction from the world.

Added a couple engines (hidden inside), the cabling between the flag masts, and put all the pieces together.

Thing’s huge!!

Fortunately, I knew I had a cabinet it could sit on. Though it just barely clears the ceiling.

How do I avoid the doomscrolling next?

Added a couple more lifeboats, and some stern area elevated platforms. And these last two sections have ow been locked together.

And with that, the first 2/3 of the build comes back to the table, because it’ll all be put together next.

A couple months after his former mates released "Duke", #PeterGabriel came back with his third solo release, colloquially known as 'Melt'.

I've listened to it quite a few times this week, and I'm still struggling with my thoughts.

Adding the rest of the decking for this stern section, the rear portholes, railings and flag, and the cranes used to move goods to and from the ship.

Depression at the state of the world.
And now adding some depression at the Bills early exit from the playoffs … again. #BillsMafia

So adding some decking and a few design details to the very end of this stern section. #Lego

This stern section includes the lowest profile, forming a small valley between two areas.

Adding more height to the front of this section, so that it meets up nicely with the section it will eventually be mated to.

Adding some decking, some portholes, and a little more walkway to this stern section.

Added a bunch of structure tonight, which I find to be a lot of fun. Also added the stern piece with her name, and started some of the decking over this section.

Getting towards the end …

And as expected, tonight was the starboard cladding and some structural work to hold up the stern decking.

Two years after their last album, #Genesis returns with "Duke". And I personally think it's a really strong return, especially after my disappointment in the last two releases. The band written songs are better, and the individual songs are (mostly) better too.

Still don’t really know how to process everything that’s going on. Which was part of why I started doing this in the first place. Feels even more frivolous now though.

Added the port side cladding around the prop shaft. Next bag will be the same build, other side.

One of the companies I work with has a pretty nice display in their Singapore office, that I tend to stare at for a few minutes any time I’m visiting them.

I’m pretty sure they would notice if I stuck one of those in my backpack.

Yep, burying my head in the sand, because apparently we’re just straight up murdering people in the middle of the day now.

So I added a rudder.

Fuck everything.

Not a big build tonight, but a little more fun than some of the others.

Starting the last section for the stern. This includes 2 of the props, and the drive shafts that will be connecting them to the engines.

IYKYK

Was always a highlight of driving out east to visit my dad’s parents; beef on ‘weck, with horseradish, crinkle fries, and a birch beer! Klaus, Ray and the whole team taking care of everyone.

More than anything else, that place makes me remember my grandparents so fondly.

The fourth and final funnel, which on the real ship was only there for aesthetic purposes; only the first three were functional.

This completes section 5, so starting from nothing again next.

For me, the next release from #Rush, "Permanent Waves" marks a shift for the band.

There's a similarity within their earlier albums. Not so strong that you could swap songs between them without noticing. But the tone and feel to each of them is similar.
