A great way to start 2026! An amazing thread I thought had been lost to the bad place, but it’s been revived here too! Thanks @nameshiv.bsky.social for rewriting it and @goldengateblond.bsky.social for quoting it earlier.
4 yrs ago today, a family member managed a truly spectacular own goal, splintered his domestic bliss, & in the process, united the world for a day.

On popular request, I shall now recreate the livetweet thread from that day

So gather around children, for this is the tale of The Rice Truck Saga

I’ll pick two…

Put another stage into my ride around Lake Michigan with these two fools. I love these guys!

Took part in the Tour de Chi, riding through all 77 of the official community areas with a whole bunch of people. Such a fun day!!

Looking forward to next year!

My recollection is that "The Wall" was my first full album introduction to #PinkFloyd.

As I said a while back with "Dark Side of the Moon", I knew the songs played on the radio, but not much more.

I still agree with going for 2 there. Put the ball in your best player’s hands, and go for the win.

Best player just made a bad pass to his open receiver.

Not even a tough loss; they didn’t deserve to win another like that.

What are your top 4 aviation photos of 2025? Hard to pick just 4.

4 unique tails, in Thailand
An ANA GE90 engine at sunrise
A United special livery 787, in Tokyo
Me in the cockpit of N777UA, the first 777 delivered to and operated by an airline (and retired about 3 weeks after that picture)

I'm going to tell my favorite story again about reflecting the certainty of beliefs back at people who don't expect it.

A friend was one of the few Jews on faculty at a North Dakota University. Every year, his colleague in religious studies would invite him to come to his religious studies class...

In 2023 I became obsessed with videos of dads in cargo shortswaiting in parking lots during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. So when she came to town, I grabbed a camera and headed down to talk to them. I thought it'd be funny. It turned out to be something else entirely.

So great to hear @gretamjohnsen.bsky.social and her new podcast Happy to be Here. I’m generally driving while listening to podcasts, so I couldn’t bake the cookies along with the show. But they sounded pretty good! Glad you’re back!

After more than 3 years away, #LedZeppelin came back with "In Through the Out Door".

Due to some personal issues, neither John Bonham nor Jimmy Page were as involved in the writing process for this record, giving John Paul Jones and Robert Plant a larger voice.

Little (or a lot) more stressful than playing a 3 win team should be. Couple play calls that made no sense to me. But the defense stood up when they needed to, and they take the road win. #BillsMafia

It may have been only 15 degrees out this morning, but it’ll be summer before you know it! So why not plan to ride through all 77 of Chicago’s community areas with a bunch of great people. Registration for the 2026 Tour de Chi is open. #BikeChi www.bikereg.com/tour-de-chi

After a tour to support their debut release, #DireStraits came back with "Communique".

This is an album that I finally picked up a few months ago, for this project. So other than Lady Writer (which is on one of their greatest hits compilations), I hadn't heard this one before now.

Cool!
Though I wish they’d stop giving opponents a huge lead that they then have to claw back.
But that’s a big win!

Umm
They have more first downs than we have plays.
That doesn’t sound good for either side of the ball.

A few months ago, I wrote about the first third of #TheBeeGees "Their Greatest Hits: The Record".
I still feel strongly that people need to give their early work more credit. But it's this middle third of the record that they are most known for, at least here in the States.

2 interceptions, including a Pick 6.
Still not a great showing, but glad to have this post not age real well.

I don’t even know what to say about this defense. It’s … terrible today!
Sure, they were burned by a bad DPI flag. But you’ve got to at least suggest you can make a stop.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Happiness can sometimes come in an 8x12 box.
One of those is a Cranberry Fritter, than I’m pretty excited about.

The next release from #Rush is "Hemispheres", and includes Cygnus X-1 (Book 2), a continuation of Cygnus X-1 from the earlier "A Farewell to Kings".

And this is definitely my favorite Rush album so far.

Reminder of who the real threat was, and who the threat has never been.

Maybe today should be a day of atonement.

For their second release, #Boston returned with "Don't Look Back".

It had to be tough to try and live up to expectations after the huge success of the first record. Personally, I think they made what might actually be a better record than their more famous debut.

And yet which one, murder or traffic violence, gets more sensational coverage in most news media?
Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.
